Anybody surprised?
To be clear I never saw the show, never saw the 2000 movie, was never interested in the whole premise, even so as soon as I saw this one I thought it looked about as tacky as 2016 Ghostbusters.

I’m not surprised. Barely anyone talked about seeing it. Reception to the trailers were very negative. It seemed to not know who it was aimed at because fans of the show didn’t wanna see it, people didn’t like Kristen Stewart and the movie couldn’t decide if it wanted to be a comedy or a straight up action movie. Movie was very tone deaf as well I remembered from when I saw it. I think this needs to be a wake up call to Ms.Banks as well though. She is not a very good director. She’s a good actress even though I can’t stand her Anti Trump stance on things. Just stick to acting Ms.Banks.

They should've re-branded the property. The Charlie's Angels name has no value.

They should have released it in the summer where it might had have had a chance, no one is going to leave their comfy homes or work to watch a two hour movie in this freezing cold with some forgettable meh actresses in lead roles, just not gonna happen. Reserve the autumn/winter slots for franchises worth a damn.

I am sure evil men are to blame for that.

The movie lived up to the trailers by being a mediocre and forgettable movie.

Honestly this was one of those movies that should have been on Netflix. I kept thinking that while watching it. It’s not big enough to be in theatres.

By mentioning Ghostbuster, I assume your problem is more about women being in the films than the films themselves? Or is it scripting issues you have concerns about?

Wow didn't even realise this was out. Disagree with people who say should be netflix only. If they get the script right and have good cast then it should belong in the theatres. Problem was the trailer was mediocre and made it look like a generic flick with an annoying cast. If the starring trio was Scarlett Johansson, Emily Blunt and Zoe Saldana that would be much more appealing.

I agree with Scarlett and Zoe as Angels even though I'm not exactly mad keen on Zoe either.

While I wasn't a big fan of the original show, I found it to be OK... When the original movie came out, I didn't care for it. Wasn't there a sequel or two to that? I didn't even bother seeing those...
And now another remake? And with actresses that no one cares about? Yeah, I'm not surprised.
And "Charlie's Angels"? While this was a great idea for the feminist movement back in the 1970s, the whole concept just sound sounds sexist in today's world:
"Three Women being bossed around by a man"? = Epic Failure!

I think the simple reason it bombed is that audiences are getting tired of all these franchises (Terminator, Charlie's Angels), or films associated with popular films (Doctor Sleep), being revived and instead are interested in non-franchise films (Midway, Ford vs. Ferrari).

I think the simple reason it bombed is that audiences are getting tired of all these franchises (Terminator, Charlie's Angels), or films associated with popular films (Doctor Sleep), being revived and instead are interested in non-franchise films (Midway, Ford vs. Ferrari). Shining isn't that popular though, adjusted for inflation it's only about $150m, it's a classic without a doubt but then so is Blade Runner which itself adjusted is only an $88m grosser, and we all saw how well that translated into mass appeal, Doctor Sleep then not even all that greatly marketed to be a sequel given that it's more a sequel to the book than the movie iirc, and that after almost 40 years mere allusions to the Shining movie is not enough to let the mass audiences know it's a Shining sequel given how often people show homage and also spoof The Shining, how unaware most people are over this stuff unless it's actually titled something like The Shining 2: Doctor Sleep, also King's works aren't typically that successful I don't think, Dark Tower sure as shit wasn't.
I don't think it really has anything to do with people being sick of reboots, it's people being sick of shitty movies, poor marketing not selling to audiences and that trying to hide behind this is sexist as a marketing ploy is moronic and a sure sign of failure.
Midway and FvsF merely catered slightly better to their audiences than Dr Sleep or Dark Fate did, but by a couple of million only, hardly a sign of any great shift, none of them broke $35m opening weekend, 2 didn't even break $20m, this is more seemingly you trying to assign a predetermined perspective to a situation rather than take a perspective from a situation.

I like how Elizabeth Banks blames men because the movie is doing badly and completely ignores that women is not watching the movie either.
