I didn't see it live, but I flipped to ESPN just to check the score and saw the players getting doused as they went to the locker room. I watched ESPN pretty much the whole rest of the night. Pretty amazing scene.
Worst part about it? It put a real damper on whatever buzz Bill Walton had going that night. 🤪

You mean this didn’t happen in Philly Idiocy only happens at Eagles games and a few Phillies games. I don't recall this ever happening at Sixer games. The Blues did go into the crowd once at a Flyers game.

Sorry for not checking with you on picking a team to root for but I would have told you to shove your opinion up your ass...pretty much like I'm doing now. Because, quite frankly, I couldn't bring myself to root for a team who's fans physically assault people on a weekly basis over a silly game.

I don’t know what’s worse, you stereotyping Philly fans or you stereotyping Philly fans and being from here. Feel free to google fan violence at North American Sports and click on the myriad examples of this occurring in other cities.

Sitting at my desk at the local rag in Cootamundra talking to some sheila about the latest meeting of the Country Women's Association. My thoughts going from "fuck, it's hot," to "WTF happened there?"

There is a point to be made about the announcers and the different attitudes in the Pacers brawl and this one. In the early 80s, you have Dick Stockton defending the fans and giving Cornbread Maxwell shit for going into the stands, and rightfully so btw. Fast forward 20 years later, we are now in a society that caters to the spoiled pompous athlete, and to prove that you have that corporate shill Mike Breem totally blaming the fans for the Pacers jumping into the stands and swinging at innocent people. Interesting comparison between the two events.

Interesting comparison between the two events. Stockton used to be one of my favorite commentators to listen to. He did an Eagles game a couple of weeks back - it was just sad to listen to - i.e. all the miscues in the booth. Kind of felt bad for him. Reminded me of listening to my Grandfather blast certain Phillies players during a game and they hadn't played for them in like 10 years Trying to think of some legends who just commentated for far too long and it was a sad listen towards the end (we have a ton locally but I don't think a lot of posters here would recognize the names - well maybe - Harry Kalas, Richie Ashburn, Gene Hart) - Pat Summerall comes to mind. Summerall and Madden were by far my favorite football commentators of All-Time - but Pat's final year or so was a tough listen IMO.

Wow, this was back when I had the vaguest semblance of a modicum of a fleeting interest in the NBA. I was but a young man in those days, full of piss and vinegar.
Where does the time go...

I hear you about Stockton, part of me is happy that he's still in the booth and part of me feels for him when he gets a little lost. Still, I'd rather listen to Dick Stockton than quite a few of the current play by play guys. I'll take him over Joe Tessitore in a heartbeat.

Bill Raftery and Dickie V (I know a lot of people can't stand him) also come to mind - to me they're NCAA Hoops Commentating Legends - going to be a sad day when they're gone - but at times it's a tough listen and you and you have to remind yourself where they're at in their lives right now
