in your oven, or gas stove top." Yeah, it loses a little romance, in translation. However, given the lack of an "Open Fire," I thought I might try this. I've had them at Christmas Street-Faires. And, while I'm not absolutely "NUTS" about them, I think this might be a fun thing, for the season. www.youtube.com/watch?v=4R9cqgKjQ0I

I had roasted chestnuts when I lived in Greece, they were sold as street food, I think remember old men cooking them in a big pan but I'm not sure, my memories are fading. I enjoyed them but I don't know if I would like them now. My tastes have changed with age.

Every other street had someone doing this.

I've never had one. I would love to try, however.

Just remember to cut a slit in them so they don't explode! (As my mom failed to do the first time she tried roasting them in the oven .)

amyghost, true anecdote follows:
I was a supervisor on a midnight shift many years ago. We had a microwave oven for employees to use for their shift meal. One day, one of my clerks, placed 2 eggs in the microwave (still in the shell) and proceeded to try to cook them. Needless to say, they exploded and made a mess of the MW oven. I had him clean up the mess, but it didn't end there. The very next shift, he brought 2 more eggs, broke the shell and spilled the eggs onto what he thought was a MW safe dish. He did not break the yokes, and voila! They exploded! We all had a good laugh but the employee was flabbergasted and never brought eggs again.
