I drank socially until my early 20s when I stopped. My friends were cool with me quitting, more for them. I have nothing against other people drinking as long as they don't behave like jackasses. In the mid-1990s I started drinking only water. About once a year I have a Coke or some juice because they are too delicious. This year, for the first time in decades, I had a Dr. Pepper after reading that thread. It was great. Wow, that takes some real willpower to go that long between having a Coke or some juice. Kudos.

Thanks. I didn't realize how much soda and juice I was drinking until I stopped. I'm not a health nut, though. I still eat junk food.

I don’t drink all that often, and definitely not when I’m alone to unwind after a day, but I’ll consume at social events, parties and kickbacks though.

That beer belly is BS if you keep your intake reasonable. like a few beers here and there is a non-issue. but those people who drinking plenty of it, those calories will add up.
I agree with you about Vera Farmiga but not this. I love beer and drink it whenever I want to. And plenty of it. And I don't gain a pound, I burn all those calories off and more riding my bikes. So if I want some beers I don't let worrying about a beer belly stop me.

I don't trust anyone who's never been drunk. Why not? I never have been. I can't stand the taste of alcohol so why would I want to force myself to drink so much of what I hate for the sake of getting drunk?

I don't know if the fallacy is thinking someone who doesn't care to experience drinking/getting drunk is denying him or herself a good time. It's possible to simply not like it or have zero interest in drinking enough to get drunk.

Slightly tipsy or full blown passing out drunk?

I also want to know how drunk someone has to get to win his trust. Slightly tipsy or full blown passing out drunk? Do you ever stop with the passive aggressive bullshit? Drink a goddamn beer once in your life. Life is short. And no one says you have to get drunk. Oh come on, what you wrote deserves a bit of mild knocking. Sorry if my unwillingness to rip into it srikes you as "passive aggressive". And you did mention getting drunk.

That Austrian Devil½!, doesn't taste much when you drink it, but suddenly a few days disappeared, with no re-collections of what happened. "sins of youth"

Since I had meningitis in September, I was told by the doctor not to drink alcohol until we'd made sure everything is okay. Apart from two glasses of red wine, I've been drinking alcohol for almost three months.
I used to do it on semi regular basis. Particular on Fridays.

1. This question has come up here MULTIPLE times before. Not sure why.
2. Why do people who don't drink need to announce it or seek out others who don't, similar to vegans or vegetarians?
3. I drink and don't care that you don't.

I'm fortunate.....like my father, my body just never tolerated it very well. Back when I was in high school, I would have the occasional beer at parties or with friends, just to be sociable, but HATED every sip of it (though, as time progressed, I eventually learned the 'trick' of getting a beer when I first got to whatever event we were at, and then just hanging onto it all day/night long, maybe taking a very small sip once or twice over the course of the evening, and then just dumping it out before leaving). Then, when disco was big (oops, just dated myself), I'd have the occasional mixed drink, but only those that weren't the kind where all you tasted was the booze ( Sloe gin screwdrivers was a BIG one). Thankfully, as an adult, I finally realized I never had to have another drink again if I didn't want to, and that the only person truly putting "pressure" on me to do so was ME.......long story short, I haven't had a drink in two decades or more, and don't know that I ever will again..... My poison of choice is diet soda....just about any kind, except for root beer. For whatever reason, that's one I never cared for (however, we have a local brewery here that makes a lo-calorie "gourmet" version that is SO good, even I like it!): SAVE FERRIS

I don't drink alcohol and never have. Same with the rest of my immediate family. It did generate some comments back in my socializing days - especially here in Ireland where drinking and socializing are intimately intertwined. It never bothered me though. I've never felt constrained by peer pressure to any significant extent.
Some girls in my school were borderline alcohols by their mid teens and lots of my peers used to complain about hangovers, blackouts, etc. So I never got the appeal.
