Xander is great! I like him a lot. They have done a great job balancing his good and bad.
Much better than they ever did with EJ.

Some things they've done right with him that they did badly with E.J.: 1. They didn't break up a popular semi-supercouple in order to pair Xander with the woman instead. The audience was supposed to root against him with Nicole and Sarah is a relatively unestablished character. 2. He's done horrible things, but his most heinous crimes were never to Sarah. He treats Sarah like a princess. That's a far cry from E.J. who was as often trying to make Sami (or Nicole) suffer as be with her. 3. A slow burn. E.J. showed up and suddenly took over the show. Xander was introduced four years ago and is only now becoming a prominent lead -- and even now, he's not seen more often than most of the other main characters.

You are so right! All of those points make so much sense as to why Xander is likable and EJ was not. Although I never minded EJ with Nicole, I just really couldn't stand him with Sami and I HATED that the show threw away all of those years of Sami and Lucas to pump up Ejami.
They have done such a good job with Xander. He makes Sarah tolerable, and I like his relationship with Maggie. But he's still a slime. He's a great middle-villain. And really, Paul Telfer is just perfect in the role and does such a great job with the balance of the character. I really like him on the show.
