sort of? I want to get into del Toro's films, but while he makes lavish environments I feel he pulls "meh" performances from his actors (or perhaps it's intentionally hokey), and because the performances are just.......there......it immediately mutes the story and dialogue for me.
the only exception being "Pan's Labyrinth" which is just great.

It supposedly takes place in Cold War-era USA, so I'm in. I'm something of a history buff so I love period pieces.
