Why does it have such a low audience score? Not sure really but perhaps its due to it not exactly being a "crowd pleaser" I guess.

Why does it have such a low audience score? I have been analyzing that by reading all the negative reviews on RT. it seems the gripe is twofold: 1. from typical sandler fans who went in blind and are shocked and displeased its not a typical sandler flick. 2. its vulgarity and the anxiety inducing style makes people feel uncomofortable and some people dont like to feel that way during a movie. its loud, its chaotic, and shows a lot of flawed people and is streasful. for many people and especially for a “holiday cinema goers” this means its a bad movie. Not shocking that most of the displeased viewers are women. complaining about all the Fbombs and lack of likeable characters and feel good momenrs. Women and their silly needs ;-).

I probably was not impacted as much by the score in a film viewing experience since lord of the rings or Sneakers.

Without giving it away, they hated the ending.

Without giving it away, they hated the ending. While I found that the movie could have benefited from a break of the constant madness, the ending makes it all better than what I could have expected.

I mean the conclusion made sense to me, he reached a point where the people he was ripping off were sick of his BS.

He thinks he conquered the world and then...nope. LMFAO.

Why does it have such a low audience score? They were probably mad the ending "subverted their expectations".

Why does it have such a low audience score? They were probably mad the ending "subverted their expectations". I think a lot of them were also pure Sandler fans; unprepared for what was on the screen. Plus some of my friends (morons I am ending my friendship with of course :-)) thought it was too vulgar and noisy/busy. And I read that as a complaint on RT often. Plus people complained there was nobody likable enough. I get that but not with a sandler here. He was a sleezbag and a gambler but I still rooted for him. I noticed how the women in his shop called him Howie and honey and obviously liked him. That show he wasn’t really all that bad.

I mean the conclusion made sense to me, he reached a point where the people he was ripping off were sick of his BS. I very much found the conclusion very darkly humorous. He thinks he conquered the world and then...nope. LMFAO. The conclusion is both fatalistic and fitting, and the way that the film ultimately remains true to its material certainly helps it. This point just occurred to me, but Chauncey Billups—the 2004 NBA Finals MVP with Detroit, previously Kevin Garnett's teammate with Minnesota, and a close and trusted friend of Garnett's—once said something about K.G. that sort of applies to the Adam Sandler character in Uncut Gems. Ironically, that is sort of what happens with the Sandler character in this movie. When you are continually manipulating matters, playing people off each other, and living dangerously, there is a strong chance that eventually you will fall, even when you seem to be on the verge of striking it big. Of course, Garnett's career did not exactly crash-and-burn. He would receive the NBA's regular season MVP Award in 2004 with Minnesota, win a championship with Boston in 2008, and is bound for the Basketball Hall of Fame this year—not to mention garnering about $344 million in career salary, to say nothing of endorsements. But when you spew frenetic energy, some of it might whip around at you, and the ending of Uncut Gems is karmic in that sense.

Indeed, the ending works; as I noted in the other Uncut Gems thread, the ending elevated the overall film for me as well. link
