Woah! This is some dark, dark stuff going on here. The idea of a person pretty much shown that she is absolutely willing to give over her own soul according to this nasty whims of some kind of low down dirty dog of a man, a jealous and deeply possessive kind of man. And the dark and intense feeling of the sound goes with the story being told so well, it's kinda sorta creepy.
Any thoughts on this one? Also, dark and bleak and depressing and very impressionistic are "Mother's Little Helper", "19th Nervous Breakdown" and "Paint It Black". All four songs have a degree of a nihilistic spirit to them. Each one absolutely does have this going on. And were they all made in and around the year 1966.

The lyrics say that she used to push him around, but things have changed.
Sounds more like wishful thinking to me.

Just a song from a bygone era
How about the old Broadway tune "Thank Heaven for Little Girls"?

The Laughing Hyenas' live version of this song is absolutely smokin'. Don't know if they ever recorded a studio version or not but I was in heaven for three minutes when they performed this song as an encore back in the 90s. Best Stones cover I've heard to date, I'd say. And, yeah, it's one of the Stones' best songs. I never get tired of hearing it and I interpret the words a little bit differently, I think the guy in the song is a victim of his own expectations and struggles with a previously pushy and domineering woman who he now *believes* he has control over...such relationships never end well.

As with Pete Tonwnsend and "The Kids are Alright" Jagger has disowned the words over the years.

It's a song about someone finally getting hand.
