Back on the Old IMDb Boards, I remember having an unending debate with another poster concerning Artificial Lifeforms...
He started a conversation concerning K.I.T.T. from the original Knight Rider 1980s TV Series... He couldn't understand why the human characters would become all upset when K.I.T.T. would become severely damaged... He only saw K.I.T.T. as being nothing more that just some computer program that could talk, and K.I.T.T. was nothing more than that. Just a "Voice Box"...
I tried to explain to him that in a lot of science fiction media, Such computerized characters were supposed to be more that just some fancy computer... Audiences were supposed to believe that they were infact True Artificial Lifeforms, and that Humans & Artificial Lifeforms could be friends..
But he just couldn't accept that "Number "Johnny" Five Was Alive!"
I'm sure everyone reading this thread has been exposed the idea of at least one Artificial Lifeform through various TV Shows and Movies...
SOME of those... May or May Not... include:
The Maria Robot, from "Metropolis " (1927)... Robby the Robot, from "Forbidden Planet" (1956)... Alicia, from "The Twilight Zone" (1959)... Rosie, from the Jetsons (1962-)... The Robot, from "Lost In Space" (1965-)... Andrea, from "Star Trek: TOS"... VGR's Ilia, from "Star Trek: TMP"... Data (& Lore), from "Star Trek: TNG"... The E.M.H., from "Star Trek: VOY"... K-9, from "Doctor Who"... R2D2 & C-3PO, from "Star Wars"... K.I.T.T. (& K.A.R.R.), From "Knight Rider"... "Joshua", from "WarGames" (1983)... The Transformers (1984-)... Max, from "Flight of the Navigator" (1986)... Number "Johnny" Five, from "Short Circuit" (1986)... The Terminator, from "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" (1991)... Isaac, from "The Orville"...
Just to name a few... But, I think you get the idea...
Do YOU believe that many of these fictional characters are meant to be interpreted as True Artificial Lifeforms?
Do you believe that, at least at some point in the future, True Artificial Lifeforms will become part of our society?
Could you ever become friends with a machine, which could be classified as a True Artificial Lifeform?
Well, I do believe that many of the fictional characters that have been presented to audiences over the last hundred years, were supposed to have been interpreted as True Artificial Lifeforms, and that it never seemed strange to me that Humans formed complex relationships with them.
There are many advanced computers and machines out now, which some people claim to be more "Advanced" than humans, but I don't believe that they are True Artificial Lifeforms, at least at this time... However, I do believe that True Artificial Lifeforms may become part of our society in the near future.
I think I could become friends with True Artificial Lifeforms, if they were to become common place... But, Initially, I think I might be skeptical about them, since I have never met any. It would probably take a while to get used to them though.
