I like Nick Adams. For a few (very few) short years he looked like he'd morph into, well, something bigger than he became.
Another one, somewhat obscure: David Frankham. Still alive, and a true gentleman.
A very personal favorite, and nobody's idea of a babe: Katherine Squier. Peerless at portraying hard luck women, she (luckily) lived into her nineties. Her soulful qualities feel like real life, not acting, and I've never seen her in anything in which she made a false move. Even when she's at her most morose I never get a sense of self-pity in her performances. There's always a quiet dignity in her work.

Nick Adams turned up in some particularly iconic monster movie stuff when I was a kid--he acted with Karloff and Godzilla, he faced an alien hunter on the Outer Limits (most horrific of all perhaps, he also washed the socks of Kirk Douglas in a movie). I felt he took the genre roles he did seriously--not treating them like he was slumming or phoning it in (like Russ Tamblyn).
