Imagine when ballparks sold seats in dead center field. Picture trying to pick up a fastball out of a sea of white shirts. Imagine trying to pick up THAT fastball out of a sea of white shirts.
I still think that Koufax's last four years was the best stretch of any ballplayer in history. Yes he pitched in a pitchers park. Yet it was a pitching dominant era. bit I think the NL in the 60's was the strongest league in history. Think of the batters Koufax had to face. Mays, McCovey, Alou, Clemente, Stargell, Brock, Banks, Cepeda, Robinson, Aaron, Mathews, Callison, Dick Allen, etc. And Koufax did it with class. If the Dodgers hadn't made a mess of his career, he would have been the best.

Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Cochrane, Greenberg, Foxx, Gehringer, Feller, Grove, Dickey. Ted Williams for one season

you think the o's 66 team is better than their 70s teams? Better than the mid to late 70's yeah. Better than the 1969-71, debatable. The 66 team had an above average player at every position except LF (Curt Blefary). The 69 team had an above average player at every position. 66 stronger at SS (Aparicio over Belanger) but the later teams had Don Buford in left. Better pitching with Mike Cuellar. But, of course, 1 for 3 in the series. The 1966 team smoked a very strong Dodgers team. In Game one, Dave McNally gave up 2 runs in 2 1/3 innings. Even though the Orioles were winning 4-2, Hank Bauer brought in Moe Drabowski. The Dodgers didn't score again. Didn't score in Game 2. Didn't score in Game 3. Didn't score in Game 4. The Dodgers had a .143 average for the series.
