I couldn't help but think of this during Wednesday's episode; all you really have to do is replace Max Bialystock with Ken Corday...:
Honest to God, who writes this shit? Justin and Sonny's scene were some of the most useless scenes ever put to paper. It's not that such inane conversations don't take place, it's that we don't need to see them. They serve no purpose than spoon feed us expositional sentiment, because the writers don't know how to write real, organic sentimental scenes.
And the bit about Sonny trying to figure out why his mom's car wasn't in the driveway... "Well, maybe Henderson put in the garage for her." "That's true, he's done that for me many times."
Who the fuck talks like that? And all that shit talking about how Ari has told Sonny and Will she wants a brother or sister; like seriously, don't tell, show. If you think that's worth including to somehow make the story about Will and Sonny discussing having more kids richer, then don't make it secondhand, because it just makes the scene more tedious.
This crash is such a clusterfuck, which was obvious from the moment it was speculated that it might happen this way. I was doubtful that it would actually happen this way just by virtue of how stupid it would be even by Days' standards. I mean, first off, you have to have Maggie be drunk; a plot point which in its own right should be one that takes some planning to setup. It's not like you'd just randomly decide that a sober Maggie inexplicably goes off the wagon one day and immediately gets blitzed, gets behind the wheel of a car and plows into someone, right? That'd be some pretty forced fucking writing to escalate that sort of development so quickly.
But then, just having her involved in the crash, knowing that the blame would be shifted to Will, wouldn't Maggie remember being involved in the crash and question her involvement? Or would they have her be so drunk that she doesn't remember the crash? And if so, how do you explain to her her injuries?
But of course, this show doesn't do stories that have lasting repercussions 90% of the time; so just as it was obvious from the beginning that Will would turn out not to have actually killed Adrienne, it's doubtful that Maggie will ultimately be the one responsible. The obvious scapegoat would be Summer, since they also setup her being out and about and likely drunk at the same time too. That, however, makes the whole accident even more convoluted, because that would mean there was a fourth car involved in the whole thing; and not only did no one notice Maggie's car, assuming Xander and Victor manage to cover up her involvement, they'll also overlook Summer's....
