I think its the cream cheese icing that makes red velvet cake popular, I enjoy a very small piece once in a while, the cake itself doesn't have much flavor. The icing is so rich, I can't eat a lot of it. Its very popular here in the Deep South. I hardly ever saw red velvet cake in the other parts of the country I have lived. We make red velvet cake for our customers all the time(WI). Most like cream cheese, but sometimes they'll ask for our ganache, or strawberry/raspberry filling. Sweet Pea: My neighbor makes homemade red velvet cake every year for the Xmas Holidays, she told me she uses vinegar, buttermilk and a little bit of Cocoa in the mix, I asked her what was in the red velvet cake because it didn't taste like white cake and it didn't taste like chocolate . I noticed they have boxed mixes in the store but I don't bake so when WKD wants red velvet cake, I get 2 slices from Publix bakery (1/2 for me 1 1/2 for him). Sadly we don't have any independent bakers in town so its either Walmart or one of the grocery store bakeries for cakes etc.

Zolotoy: As one of seven kids growing up in the 1950's, my mom would make sure we were fed...unfortunately, with cheap Banquet frozen dinner products. Later when I was drafted, I was mortified by Army food, and swore that once I was on my own, I would never go back to crappy food and if I am going to eat a frozen dinner, it will always carry the "Stouffer's" logo. There is one Banquet Dinner that I enjoy and that's their Sweet and Sour Chicken with rice. I usually cannot eat rice because of a problem with my esophagus but I can handle the rice in this frozen dinner as long as I eat it slowly. I just like the taste of this dinner and I figure most of the food we eat nowadays is unhealthy so I don't worry and I always keep a Sweet and Sour Chicken dinner in the freezer to have when WKD has fish or steak for supper. That sounds excellent, WKM. I love S&S Chicken, so I will have to give that a try. Marie Callender's has a Teriyaki Chicken frozen dinner that I really like, too.
Koski may be right about Banquet frozen TV dinners back in the day, but I think their current lineup of products have been upgraded and made more interesting (and hopefully more palatable). I don't want to count them out entirely. But I'll have to actually give some of them a try before a make a final judgment about them.

It is actually a "cocoa" cake. Myself, I use pomegranate. My grandmum used to use cranberry. But it's because we use only butter, not only, or....shortening. So it adds a tang to the cake along with the buttermilk.

RX Bars (protein bars) are awesome! I was never into protein bars or anything like that, but these are really good, don't have a ton of shit added to them, and are the perfect thing to have in my desk for an afternoon snack, or to have with me when I'm on the road or hiking all day. In fact, I'm going to have one right now!
Lately, I'm seeing all this crap about apple cider vinegar pills. It's meant to "cleanse" you, or something. Bullshit. Just drink a ton of water and you're good.

In China, if you order the bat soup, you get free Corona.

barely cooking veggies. So when you eat veggies they are almost raw, just warm. lol I don't need my veggies cooked to mush, but I like them cooked like: not rawish I KNOW A Chinese chef who was annoyed with the raw vegs that are passing as "Chinese" cuisine. "We cook our vegetables!"

"We cook our vegetables!" maya, this is exactly what reminded me of that trend. We go to this Chinese restaurant and I usually get chicken with mixed veggies. The veggies are hot, but not cooked. I started asking for the vegetables to be cooked more. If one of the waiters is there, it happens. But the other one does not speak English well enough to understand. So I order something else. I like raw veggies, but if they are cooked, I want them cooked. lol On all the cooking shows, they emphasis this trend. It is not for me. lol

Macrobiotics. Good way to slowly starve yourself to death, IMO.
Though, properly handled, some macrobiotic diets are supposed to be good for managing Type-2 diabetes.

I just thought of another food trend I never got into, Sushi, of course I'm now allergic to fish and seafood but when I wasn't, I wouldn't touch the stuff - I liked Lake Perch and fried smelt.
