If I was close up to a young Raquel Welch in a bikini, I'd probably paint like that too.

msdemos Exactly! some people are snobs as some "art" is just flat out crap and the sad thing is some people pay decent $ for crap (they have more $ than brains). but in the art world it's almost like once you become a name you can do total crap (like the "painting" in the topic) and they will praise you anyways. like some average person could have painted the exact same thing and no one would care, but since someone with a name did it, it's "high art". *roles eyes* because while ill agree to some degree that what art is good and what's not is open for interpretation. but some stuff, like what's in the topic, is that "art" snobs tend to kiss up to as it's basically a bunch of paint splashed onto it. it's total crap. it's laughable and I suspect some take it all seriously etc. *roles eyes* hell, I would say the only thing that makes it worth something is because Raquel Welch touched it (or it was "supposed-to-be" based on her) than the "painting" itself, which is worthless in my mind as anyone who can paint/draw half way decently can easily come up with something more appealing than that. but since it's someone with a name, they could take a white background, take a leak on it, wait for it to dry, and it's suddenly "high art". lol
hell, at the very least... even Dali could have did better than that as he could have at least had it resemble a person instead of what looks like splashed on globs of paint.
p.s. but on a positive note... it could be worse as some people who claim what they do is art, is actually depravity.

My friends 4 yr old paints like that. Her paintings won't be worth much though, because she's not a famous artist painting a famous attractive model. Nice how hype sells. Dali's was a sad case of a once-great artist succumbing to mental deterioration and surrounded by hucksters. At the close of his life, he was being 'aided' by assistants who'd get him to put his signature on pieces of paper, canvas, whatever, and then paint or litho any old dali-esque crap on them--then proceed to sell them for huge sums. It's the main reason Dali's work has the reputation of being one of the shakiest investments in the big-name art world; literally hundreds, if not thousands, of late pieces are worthless forgeries that were acquired by collectors as the real deal. And he certainly wasn't averse himself to trading on his name for high-dollar junk; one reason his fellow Surrealist, Andre Breton, christened him with the anagram of "Avida Dollars" .
