81 - because the Raptors participated Blazers game 7 - because new era Kings game 7 - because electrifying
I wasn't a Kobe fan, but those games represent my appreciation for his gifts.

His first all-star game got my eyes open up. Not wanting to take away the spotlight of Michael Jordan, George Karl sat him 4th quarter. His 81 points game, of course. His last game. Despite people saying that it was a phony 60 + points game. He still have to make the shot. What a way to go out on top!

Game 1, game 4 and game 6 of the 2008 NBA Finals. My thoughts exactly. 😉 And wasn't the Game 6 of that Finals the one where Kobe totally gave up on his teammates and took himself out of the game early in the 4th quarter? A public display of what a "great teammate" he was. What, too soon??

Dude took 3 shots in the second half of a blowout loss. I was being sarcastic by pointing out three Lakers Finals losses to the C's as my three favorite Kobe games, but the point stands. To me it's too soon to start ripping the guy but I answered the OP's question honestly.

Of course, he was an incredible player, in my top-10 greatest basketball players I've ever seen. And yes, it is a tragedy how he died, just as it was for the other 8 people who perished, especially the two young girls. But let's not nominate him for sainthood just yet.....that's all.

No argument here, I shared my thoughts on this topic (Kobe hate, how much is acceptable now) in another thread. He was far from perfect but I'm not going to rip him to shreds the day after he died. At some point in the future some yutz will try to say he was better than Jordan, and I'll be happy to argue against that idea. It's just not a discussion I need to have today.

Kobe vs Jordan is a fascinating discussion, I choose Jordan but a case can be made for Kobe. One positive thing I will say about Kobe is that I would take him over Lebron James in a big game any day of the week. Lebron is great, but in terms of pure dedication and intensity, he had NOTHING on Kobe.

One positive thing I will say about Kobe is that I would take him over Lebron James in a big game any day of the week. Lebron is great, but in terms of pure dedication and intensity, he had NOTHING on Kobe. I think Kobe vs. LeBron is more interesting. To me, it's Jordan every day and twice on Sunday. He was the best player in the history of the game. Dominated at both ends, would not allow you to even think you were going to win. Took everything personally and was borderline (not even borderline, full blown) psychotic about winning. Jordan didn't want to be called the greatest, he just didn't want anyone thinking they were better. Kobe was a shade apart. Kobe wanted to be called the greatest. Kobe wanted to be Jordan, or better than him. Not a bad motivation, but not the purest one. And Jordan didn't constantly elbow people in the face deliberately, or quit on his team when they needed him most. But Kobe is leagues ahead of LeBron. LeBron doesn't even care about winning; not really. Championships are like a checkbox on a form he can fill out about his career. He already thinks he's the greatest, it doesn't matter if he wins or not. LeBron is more than happy to pass the ball with 2 seconds left in the game. So to me there's no comparison in mindset as players. Where it gets interesting is when you start asking who you'd draft: peak Kobe or peak LeBron. I'd have to say LeBron. His versatility and value as a facilitator make it so easy to throw a team of bodies around him and build an instant contender. That's the only scenario I choose LeBron, though. If I'm building a contender, I go with LeBron. If I have one game to win with my life on the line. Between those two? Kobe f*cking Bryant, thank you.

You make excellent points, especially when talking about Lebron. Matter of fact, that might be the best description of Lebron I've ever heard. Of course, I'll take Larry Bird over all of them, but I am biased. 👍
