I don't know if this is a London thing but all the dentists in my area seem to be barely out of nappies.
And they are all women. Which would be nice in the ordinary run of things, but not when they are shoving yards of wire into your face by way of performing root canal treatment. A chap does not look his best at such a time.

Catman had a woman dentist for a while. Then she started not showing up for appointments because she was 'out sick'. First couple times, that was plausible, but third time, she was actually in a back room and Catman happened to catch sight of her. Never went back.

I just started with a new dentist who is a young woman ... I would guess her to be in her early/mid 30's. My old dentist retired, and I wanted someone in my current neighborhood, so I could walk to appointments. She came highly recommended, and I think that I made a good choice.

Well, you are not there to flirt with her, but because you need medical attention. And I can guarantee you your doctor has seen people in much worse shape than you. (Assuming you're an average citizen). Older people, cancer patients, heavy smokers, alcoholics, people who are mentally and/or physically challenged. I know a lot of doctors and they often tell me how badly many of their patients treat their bodies and what catastrophic shape they are in. Doctors can be very cynical and they get used very quickly to human frailty otherwise they would be incapable of doing their jobs. Especially dentists tend to encounter people in their most pathetic and vulnerable state.
When I had my military examination. It was done by this really attractive blonde female doctor. It was quite awkward standing there stark naked and being thoroughly examined, but in the end it could've been far more unpleasant.

And I can guarantee you your doctor has seen people in much worse shape than you. The last time I went to see my doctor she sighed and said, "If you took better care of yourself my job would be a lot easier."
And I replied, "If I wasn't an elderly, overweight, ex 70 cigarettes a day alcoholic, you would not have anyone to care for and would be out of a job."
And did she thank me? Not bloody likely.

All kidding aside:
I see it, too. When I go to the dentist's office for a cleaning, the interns are probably not far out of dental school.
In fact, I'm pretty sure my dentist is younger than I am.
We're getting old! Well...we're not getting any younger, anyway.

I've had a young female hygienist since I was 8yr old. My actual dentist has been a male, he does the surgeries & stuff.
