So I rented a movie last week- no, that's not the freaky part. Although I suppose it is kind is freaky. Renting movies in 2020?! What?! That's f****g nuts! But no, that's not it...
So, anyway, the movie last week was an obscure sci fi movie from the 50s called This Island Earth. Not bad. So this week I figure I'll rent another random sci fi movie. I remember I have been meaning to rewatch E.T. because I haven't seen it since childhood. So there's a scene halfway through where E.T. is actually watching This Island Earth!
So the character in the random movie I rented this week is watching the random movie I rented last week!
Weird spooky stuff, no? Well, I thought so. It's freaking me out, man.

Have you ever sat down and watched an episode of Star Wars and thought “Hey, he looks like me!”...?

Catman liked Neutron in This Island Earth. Best actor by far in the whole thing, except for maybe Russell Johnson, and Orangey didn't even get screen credits.

Okay there's the cosmic web, but there's also this: You've seen "E.T." before. So the movie "This Island Earth" was implanted in your subconscious already. You saw the title "This Island Earth" and your subconscious told you to rent it. Having jogged one related memory from your subconscious, you then had an urge to rewatch "E.T." I have a good example of the cosmic web though. I know a guy named Reynold who is separated from his wife Linda. He moved into the house next me. A block from us there two adjacent streets, Reynold Ave. and Linda Ave. He says he did not know there was a Reynold Street nearby when he moved there. Well, the last time I saw E.T. I was probably five years old. And I had no idea where that movie clip was from. I barely remembered anything from the movie at all so I doubt that tiny clip stuck. Interesting theory though. I suppose it's possible.... Thats funny. I love stuff like that. I don't think it means anything, but it's nice to know that if there's a higher power it has a sense of humor.

There may be parallel dimensions and things which seem unrelated may in fact be connected in ways we as humans don't understand. I would love to believe that kind of stuff, but I just think the randomness of things will naturally lead to weird coincidences.

My SO' s fraternal twin brother's wife has the same name as I do, which is a bit of an odd coincidence.

I'm not sure I would call 'This Island Earth' an obscure movie. It was a big-budget release by a major studio originally, and then was introduced to whole new generation through Mystery Science Theater 3000. It didn't make huge box office in its day, but sci-fi movies were considered kid/teen entertainment at the time (like comic books) and not the mainstream phenomenon they are today. Anyone with an interest in science fiction would have seen it, including, I'm sure, a young Steven Spielberg.

Wanna hear something even MORE freeakier? Last week I was in bed with 2 lesbian vegetables, trying to see if I could turn them heterosexual, or at the very least, see if one of them would let me use there nipple breast flesh to tickle my testicle =]
yes, this happened.

It's, like.... everything's connected, man. Like it's all part one one big thing, you know? I really have a soft spot for This Island Earth. I find the setup for the movie really interesting - the scene where they take over his jet and you just hear this eerie electronic pulsing as it turns green is really fascinating to me, and I love the idea of them sending him all these weird parts to see if he can assemble one of their machines as a test of his intelligence. Things start to go south when he gets to the mansion, though. I mean, Exeter and his pals are so obviously aliens, but it's like everyone just kind of fails to notice it. I remember laughing when the girl shows him a sketch of Exeter and is like "did you notice this extension on his head?" Yeah, no shit lady, how is "OH MY GOD WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOUR HEAD!" not the first thing anybody thinks on meeting him?! Plus it really doesn't make much sense to me that this super-advanced alien race needs to come and get Earthlings to develop new tech for them? Huh? Then we get to the alien planet, and it's again kind of a letdown. It's like "well, here are the Earthlings... wow, sucks here... okay, we'll be going now!" I still like the film overall, but it really doesn't match up to something like Forbidden Planet, say.

I really just meant that today it isn't a household name like, say, The Day the Earth Stood Still. And the odds of me watching it in 2020 and having this experience was a billion to one.
