So I heard it for the first time on the radio the other day. My God. What is this overrated garbage? A repeating noise of guitar notes over and over and over and over and over again and again and again and again. And then a voice that sounds like a girl whose being tortured with her tits in a vice. Cats howling in heat sound a hell of a lot better.
And the lyrics. Just shallow shit that does not run deep at all. OK You got laid with a groupie. So what? Oh wait. What lyrics? Just nonsense dog crap that repeats itself over and over again just like the rest of this crap song:
Where do we go? Where do we go now? Where do we go? Oh, oh Where do we go? (Where do we go now?) Oh where do we go now? (Where do we go?) Where do we go? (Sweet child) Oh where do we go now? Ay ay ay ay (where do we go now, where do we go) Oh where do we go now? Where do we go? Oh, where do we go now? Oh, where do we go? Oh where do we go now? Where do we go? Oh, where do we go now? No, no, no, no, no, no Sweet child Sweet child of mine
Those who like this noise have zero taste in music. I'd rather listen to 10 nonstop hours of train collisions.
Thankfully the radio comes with a power button to turn this shitty "song" off.

I don't know if it deserves to be considered a classic and I'd say it is overrated. But I think worst song or even bad is a bit harsh.

I am not a fan of that song, but if that is the worst song you have ever heard, i have to say that you have been very lucky with the songs you have heard in your life.

I don’t like the song, but you’re dumb and annoying.

I hated nearly everything G&R did. Except Use Your Illusion II, which is a great album

Far from great, but it's decent enough for what it is. Far, far from the worst ever IMO, but I understand these things are highly subjective and sometimes when a song gets under your skin in a negative way, it's hard to see it as anything but "the worst song ever". For me that song is "I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker"

Your opinion is what it is, but if you’re being sincere and truly not trolling, how is it possible that the other day was the first time you heard it on the radio? Do you listen to rock radio and rock music in general? The song is over 30 years old now, I find it difficult to believe that you’ve managed to avoid it all this time.

I consider it one of my favourite tracks. Slash does some excellent solo work on it. GnR were smack bang in the middle of my era of music so i like pretty much everything they've done and i have a special fondness of Lies, Appetite and the Illusion albums.

It's one of the best songs ever written if only because of the guitar solo alone. Even as a guy who's listened to tons of guitar-centric music (including guys like Vai, Satriani, Holdsworth, etc.) I'd still rate that as the best guitar solo of all time. It takes a few simple melodic ideas and progressively expands them until it hits the stratosphere near the end when he switches to the bridge pickup and hits the wah and starts hitting these chromatic notes and over-bends.
Axl is, well, Axl. I've grown accustomed to his voice even though I've never really liked it. Rest of the band is really solid, though, including some nice melodic bass work and nicely accentual drumming. Melody is damn good too, and sounds just as good played on other instruments (maybe better, if you don't like Axl's voice). I'd also say the verse rhythm guitar parts are terribly underrated. They're really beautiful despite being buried in the mix. There's actually quite a lot of nuance/subtlety going on in that song if you break it down and learn to play it with a band. I'm almost tempted to say it's even underrated because most people who like it just like the melody without understanding everything that's going on.

As for "worst song ever," you need to get out more:
