Looks like there wasn't a thread for this show and I have watched all but the last two episodes over the last couple of years (along with Madigan and Cool Million).
Interesting contrast with other procedural detective shows in that there is never a murder involved, yet the stories hold your attention just by the mystery of how the theft was done. I have only guessed how it was done once--within five minutes of the theft--where a statue was stolen.
I wonder why in the second season Christine Belford was made a regular since she only appeared in the pilot? The episode "Rocket To Oblivion" gave her (and the supporting cast) the most to do so far. I hope she gets a win of her own before the show ends.
Also, in the opening credits they keep adjusting the scenes of women he is on the town with.
Murray Matheson--first saw him in Kolchak episode as an antiques dealer. In Banacek he is an antique book dealer. Since Kolchak is also supposed to be of Polish ancestry I wonder how much his casting was a coincidence.
As the Polish proverb says:
"Though the hippopotamus has no sting in its tail, the wise man would prefer to be sat upon by the bee."

This will be obscure but for whatever reason I remember one episode. It was about a football player who disappeared during a game. He got tackled but the when everybody got up he was gone. Nobody knew what happened. Except Banacek! I won't post any spoilers but that episode has never left me.

It was hidden in the message above it, just like a Banacek theft scheme.

I watched the one with Sterling Hayden--did he decide to emulate John Huston? He sure reminds me of John Huston in this. I am glad they gave Christine Belford the day off but they had to with Victoria Principal around.

I watched the final Banacek. Unfortunately I was able to guess the mystery after 5 minutes! They picked the wrong person for this trick--the voice was a giveaway.
