Possibly regarded as a pioneer of techno pop, but Numan infused his music with heavy rock and driving chords. Early stuff was very catchy, loads of hits and slaughtered by critics, later stuff, praised by critics, but no hits!.Oh well. I prefer the later darker material.

I'm a huge Gary Numan fan. I still keep track of his new stuff. Pure and Jagged had glimpses of good stuff but didn't quite do it for me. His 2017 release Savage is as brilliant as anything he's ever done, great stuff.
It was awesome to run across this interview in which he talks about one of his inspirations, the artist John Foxx, leader, songwriter and vocalist of the first iteration of Ultravox! The three albums with Foxx in that band are personal all time favorites for me, and, apparently, for Gary Numan.

I really started listening to him about 10 years ago. I really like his music and hope to see him live someday.

I bought the first Tubeway Army album off Gary himself, he talked me into it, when he was working on a record stall in London's Soho Market.
