Need a thread for the greatest war movie of all time, Glory. Best battle scene ever in any war movie (assault on Ft Wagner at the end)......here is a post of mine I saved from IMDb...My 13 yr old son and I watched recently and he questioned the two versions of US flags seen in the movie. He did some research and found the following - First is one where the small state stars are in the shape of a larger star on the blue field (33 star flag). The other is where the small state stars are in two concentric circle (34 star flag). Those flags are accurate for the time period of the movie, and well done to the movie for getting this right. Just another reason why I love this movie so much -- must have watched it 50+ times. The score, acting, filming, etc - just top notch. Broderick as Shaw was outstanding. And as a military history buff and war movie fanatic, I say without hesitation the whole assault on Ft Wagner scene - from the time Shaw puts his uniform on in the tent, through his emotional walk through the soldiers (We...we...are ready Colonel), through the prep scenes on the beach (The 54th is ready sir), to the final assault, are the FINEST military battle scenes EVER put on film. I put these scenes up against ANY OTHER MOVIE.

Yep, in my top10 movies of all time for sure. Hadn't watched it for a long time but watched it a couple of days ago and was reminded of how amazing it is. The score is simple incredible and the acting (especially from Denzel and Broderick) is top notch. Not a single bad performance to be seen and the final battle sequence is one of the best ever filmed IMO.

It was an excellent movie. Each actor was a credit to his role.

As I recall, the bayonets of the 54th as they attacked Fort Wagner seemed to have too much flex to them, as if they were made of rubber, but I can easily understand why that would have been done for reasons of safety. Nonetheless, "Glory" is an outstanding film, and quite possibly the most accurate war film ever made.

One of my favorite movies. 9/10.
I've never understood why Edward Zwick's films don't get more attention. Glory and The Last Samurai are such magnificent movies, but nobody talks about them.

Definitely one of my favorite war movies. Glorious score by the late great James Horner. Excellent cast. Beautiful cinematography. Shocking that this was nominated for Best Picture. It would seem a movie Hollywood would love to honor.

Denzel Washington's best performance. And I love Denzel Washington and admire his performances in many other movies.

Completely agree. Glory, Legends of the Fall, Courage Under Fire and The Last Samurai all rank among my list of personal favorites.
