John Frankenheimer brougt something new and fresh into movies in the early 1960s, having a long experience of directing TV drama since 1950s. Incredible as it might sound he was never ever even nominated for an Oscar, though later in his career He won 4 Emmy Awards. Had he lived John Frankenheimer would have been 90 this year. The poll is optiional, in case you rather list favorites the old fashioned way.

It’s saying something when Train Magazine picks Frankenheimer’s “The Train” as the best train movie ever. But what a decade of the 1960s John Frankenheimer had! In addition to “The Train” he helmed The Fixer, Seconds, Seven Days In May, The Manchurian Candidate, and Birdman Of Alcatraz.
For me, “The Manchurian Candidate” will be his enduring masterpiece. “Seven Days In May” is also a favorite.
