Ruth - Gehrig Mantle - Maris Ortiz - Ramirez who else? I'm going to be a total homer here and for about a 5 year stretch in the 3 and 4 hole for the Phils: Utley Howard was a blast to watch every night. Was great watching Rollins and Utley get on base at the top of the order and then having Howard in the cleanup spot to drive them in.

Ruth-Gehrig is by far the greatest 1-2 punch ever. I would put both of those guys in the top 10 MLB hitters of all time, amazing that they played together for a decade. No one 1-2 punch will ever match their greatness.
The best 1-2 punch right now would definitely be Bryant and Rizzo, and they have a chance to become a legendary 1-2 punch as they have a good chance to bring more titles to the Cubs, but no duo will ever match Babe and Lou IMO.

"Black" Mickey Cochrane "Bucketfoot" Al Simmons "The Beast" Jimmie Foxx
The 1929 - 1931 A's had a great 1-2-3 punch
Mickey Cochrane Charlie Gehringer Hank Greenberg for the 30's Tigers was a good one, but Cochrane shuffled up the lineups (Greenberg hit 6th a lot).

Good calls with the 29-31 A's and mid 30's Tigers. Also I will add
50's Dodgers : Duke Snider, Roy Campanella, Carl Furillo, Gil Hodges were four great hitters in the middle of the lineup.
Big Red Machine : Johnny Bench, Tony Perez, Joe Morgan, George Foster, Ken Griffey, Pete Rose, arguably the best hitting team ever.
Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco with the late 80's A's.
Willie Mays and Willie McCovey on the 60's Giants.
