...but also say they won't actually stop non-seniors from shopping during those hours, and they're just hoping the public will abide by the request. All right.

The store Catman frequents has also implemented that rule. From 7AM to 8AM. Should work out well since young people are too lazy to get up that early.

I asked my mom if she asked around about it. None of the local grocery stores have it. She had cancer and chemo, but that was a couple years ago. And she's mid-70's. I offered to do her grocery shopping. I'm worried about them! My dad is mid 70's too and smokes a lot still. I'll even bring my Lysol sprayer and give everything a good coating before I drop it off.
I'm going to see if they want to do Skype Easter dinner with laptops and we're all at our own homes. We can all make the same thing so it seems real. It would be kind of nice since I can just eat at my coffee table and have them on the television screen.

Good steps, and great suggestions!

ive seen that in Europe being the rule too. i wonder what the logic behind it is... It's supposedly to help out older people (and also, at some of the stores in our area, those with "underlying health issues".....though how they can determine who those people are just by looking at them (in some cases), is anybody's guess) so they can get their things without having to 'fight' larger crowds and (I'm guessing) give them a better chance at getting all the things they need in one trip, since stores are usually re-stocked at night, and tend to have greater availability of items when they first open in the morning, before being picked over during the course of the day.... SAVE FERRIS

SAVE FERRIS . . . except for meat and dairy and some other cold/frozen perishables. And baked bread.

Catman showed up just before the store opened for old folks this morning, and there were about 20 people standing outside, 10 at each of the two entries. Catman stood back from the small crowd, and when the manager opened one of the entries, everyone rushed over to go inside. Of course, that many people trying to enter the store all at once caused a bit of a traffic jam. By then the manager had made his way over to the other entry, so Catman was able to walk in without having to wait for other people to get their carts.
It was nice to shop without children milling about, and Catman was able to get almost everything he wanted, including eggs and baby carrots. A surprising number of the egg cartons had cracked eggs, and it took several tries before Catman found one with all eggs intact.
The only thing that was sold out was the baby wipes Catwoman prefers, but since Catman had picked up a couple extra boxes back in December, that wasn't a big deal. Catman did grab a package of the TP Catwoman prefers, but there was plenty of the store brand on the shelves.
The cereal aisle was almost bare, but again, since Catman had stocked up on cereal back in December, it made no difference for him. And the gallon jugs of water were not to be found, but again, not a problem.
And Catman made it home in time to give Miko and Katsura their second breakfast.

Only our local Smith's (Kroger, Ralph's, King Soopers) has special hours, 7-8 am. The reason they give is that during the night time hours they are closed the floors and counters have been disinfected so the first hour open is the best for a vulnerable population (besides keeping germy Gen Xers and Millennial out of their faces). This is the actual store.

Señor only shopping hours, you say? ¡Ay carámba! What about us señoras y señoritas? ¡Qué vergüenza! señoras y señoritas = married ladies and unmarried ladies; ¡Qué vergüenza! = What a shame! or What a disgrace! But don't ask me what ¡Ay carámba! means, because I don't know. Not even that fine caballero, Panchito the Rooster, can tell you that.

Let's hope people will have some compassion for the elderly and those at risk and not start turning up at those hours.

We think that's a really nice and safe thing to do.
