Michael Caine: ‘Nolan’s Batman movies is one of the greatest things I have done in my life’ "He came to the front door of my house in the country with a script. I could see him through the glass but I couldn't recognize him. The moment he introduced himself, I knew exactly who he was because I was a great fan of his three small films." "I told him, 'I am too old for Batman. Do you want me to play the butler? What would my dialogues be? Would you like another beverage or more custard?' So, I did the movie and it was one of the greatest things I have done in my life." movieweb.com/batman-begins-michael-caine-greatest-career-moments/?fbclid=IwAR1RbGMtKCEllD56SCTdA3OfcB4za7vNAXTnivCHyn64GbseEADv0hNOTvQ

Caine was outstanding as Alfred because he made Nolan's his own... i.e. I never felt like I was watching Michael Caine on-screen, I bought in right away his first moments in BB.

Caine was fantastic. He gave Alfred a tougher edge. Not as stuffy as the traditional take on the character, which was a nice change of style and made his involvement in Bruce's undertaking all the more believable.

Love his take on Alfred, and he’s one cool bastard in real life too.

I myself consider Michael Caine and Michael Gough to be the Top 2 Best "Alfreds" out of all of the ones that we have seen in both Film and on TV.

When did Alfred have time to be off in Burma with the lads if he was working for the Waynes?

When did Alfred have time to be off in Burma with the lads if he was working for the Waynes? I assume it was when he was still a very young man, before he moved to the US.

I assume it was when he was still a very young man, before he moved to the US. I guess I was thinking if he was off in Burma that suggests a military aspiration beyond national service. And when would this have been? Not WW 2, he would have been too young. Unless he was a mercenary which makes it even weirder that he would end up a butler.

I always got the vibe that Caine's Alfred was once a real badass himself in his younger days. Perhaps that was why he was hired in the first place?

When did Alfred have time to be off in Burma with the lads if he was working for the Waynes? Most modern versions of Alfred have him as an ex-Secret Service agent/Royal Marine before working for the Waynes.

Or at least go with the family to the movies!

Most modern versions of Alfred have him as an ex-Secret Service agent/Royal Marine before working for the Waynes. That seems to be the case for the Alfred from Joker. Yet a skinny weakling like Arthur Fleck nearly chokes him to death. Perhaps another of Arthur's fantasies?

I assume Alfred is meant to be the same age as Michael Caine at the time of these Batman films. So he's in his 70s. His military service would date back to the 1950s so. Burma entered a state of protracted armed conflict from the late 40s onwards. I agree that he may well have been a mercenary. Might explain why he's so open to Bruce's vigilante antics.

I can't believe Michael Caine is 87 years old.

Not a big fan of Nolans Batman but I really liked Cain as Alfred.
