Both actors pretty much play "themselves" in every movie they're in. So which one do you prefer

Denzel Washington ; that's no contest. he's just got a stronger/more commanding overall presence if you ask me. he's more charismatic. not many can challenge Denzel if you ask me. some, but not many. like Denzel once said (in Training Day (2001)), 'King Kong ain't got $h!t on me!' (...and neither does Downey Jr)

(...and neither does Downey Jr) I would go with Denzel too but RDJ imo is not that far behind. Both have gripping screen presence and natural charisma. The MCU movies may not be Oscar worthy but RDJ has effectively single handledly carried the franchise to earn billions by playing his natural personality on-screen and that shouldn't be underlooked. Denzels strong magnetic tone of delivery is his greatest strength but there are occasions where I think he does overact a little.

Downey Jr is a good actor, but he's not in the same league as Denzel Washington.

Robert Downey Jr. is a fine comic actor who's had a major career resurgence, though I miss his interesting choices of yesteryear.
Denzel's a legend. As a fan of genre cinema, I consider him a crime icon, and he's always been drawn to sci-fi premises too. He's also made some thought-provoking political dramas at every stage in his career and beefed up like a bulkster. For me, he's as strong as any actor working today, and one of the few I'd be willing to watch in anything.

I'll say RDJ. Sure, he plays himself sometimes in stuff like Zodiac and the MCU, but he's also shown he can play totally different characters in Tropic Thunder and Chaplin. I don't think Denzel has shown tbe sane level of versatility.

I think Jack Nicholson and Will Smith more "play themselves".

Jason143Downey Jr is pretty much stuck on his Tony Stark/Iron Man thing. outside of that, Denzel is easily ahead overall. I am not saying Downey Jr is crap, but he's definitely not in Denzel territory overall. or another way one could put it... if you removed Iron Man from Downey Jr, Denzel would be far ahead I think in terms of general public popularity.

I've never been a Denzel fan. He was in Glory, right? I did like that. But I think that's it.

Maybe Denzel, it's pretty close. Also, I hated Denzel in Training Day
