Crazy footage of a tornado that hit the town of Fairdale, Illinois in 2015, resulting in two fatalities. The man who recorded the footage survived, but his wife was one of the fatalities. First video is the raw footage, second one is a news report on the video.

Awesome spectacle of the devastating effects of nature, but it is not worth capturing it till the last moment. Find and seek shelter as soon as possible if you value your life. I have no idea why he and his wife didn't take shelter at SOME point. He says he thought it was going to pass him by, but surely by the time it was destroying the neighbors he must have realized he was in the path.

While the footage is cool and all, there is no way he should have stayed there like that, especially after a certain point it just becomes TOO close and he's apparently on the upper floor of his house when he should have been in basement etc (or at least close to the basement so if he had to bail maybe he had a chance).
plus, he's not exactly young to where he can run fast which further lowers his chances if he's going to push things to the limit before it's too late. because you can see at a certain point the wind starts amping up with a bit of debris, which was a red flag, and not long after that he was totally screwed.
because looking at the video footage there was 'maybe' a bit over 10 seconds tops from the time it started looking borderline/red flag territory with a bit of debris in the air to where he was totally screwed in the full blown shaft with no chance of escape. so even if you were really quick, you would probably still have not made it to the basement etc as even assuming you had a chance, there is a very thin line in this situation of making it to the basement and straight up death if your running things to the edge by the visible debris in the air. so things changed a lot in about 15-20 seconds in that video as 20 seconds before the full blown shaft hit, it did not look too bad given his situation. but it just goes to show your rolling-the-dice on situations like that if you linger to record the stuff.
personally if I was going to gamble and try pushing things to the edge with recording I would want to be within 5 seconds or so (10 seconds MAX) of being able to bolt to a decent spot in the basement for cover as there is simply no way I would gamble on the upper floor like that guy did as that's pretty much suicide if the tornado hits you.

I don't know, man. How are you more interested in filming the tornado than the safety and protection of your wife? That's messed up. I mean...if I'm him I'm in the basement under the stairs or laying in the bathtub trying to shield my wife. This guy watches a tornado run over him and he THINKS his wife was in the kitchen. If you live in tornado alley you know the protocol. I don't get this guy at all.

I agree with the above statements as to how foolish this man was. However, the footage is amazing.
I live on the west coast, and have never experienced a tornado. I've often heard the sound described as being like that of a nearby passing train. Now, that I've heard it, I think that's a very apt description.

"No honey, it'll be okay......I'll film it, and you can just stay right there under the couch. Here it comes!! OH , AND ONE OTHER THING.......YOU DID MAIL THE PREMIUMS ON MONDAY FOR THAT NEW LIFE INSURANCE POLICY WE JUST TOOK OUT ON YOU, RIGHT ??" So, if this couple had happened to have had kids, is it safe to assume they would have also had them right there with them for this ?? SAVE FERRIS
