A Hong Kong police officer is forced to act as a bodyguard for a woman who will testify against her crime lord boss.
This is the type of action formula that Jackie Chan is most associated with; martial arts mixed with comedy. He knows how to choregraph amazing fights, especially scenes that involve smashing glass. Lots of great stunts, in particular the destruction of the shanty town scene was quite the spectacle.
Some of the comical elements are amusing, but there is also too much needlessly silly slapstick. It does get a bit too goofy for its own good.
So overall a fairly entertaining and fun action flick. Judging by the outtakes it looks like Chan had a lot of fun making Police Story, while at the same time incurring some nasty injuries.

Easily one of the greatest action movies of all time. Western audiences aren't used to that level of goofy comedy in their action, but if you watch enough Asian cinema it doesn't seem that incongruous.

Very enjoyable Jackie Chan vehicle, especially what he puts himself through to nail an action scene. I might actually prefer the sequels Police Story II & Supercop. Although it’s a quite a consistent series.
