If there are not enough movies... I would just skip the Oscars outright and just have one next year. no point in them forcing the show if the movies just ain't there.
hell, if I were them I would consider combining 2020 and 2021 into the 2021 awards show (which I think airs early 2022 if I recall correctly(?)) and just skip the upcoming one.

Well Hanks has the Greengrass movie, and Hopkins has The Father as well. Also Hanks has the Lurhmann Presley project.

Hopkins sounds like an early frontrunner based on the raves which came out of Sundance. He certainly has a career which could be seen as worthy of a second Oscar.
Hanks’ role doesn’t sound like awards material to me but we’ll see.

Now that somebody mentioned Sundance, the film might actually not get any nominations. Last year people were praising Annette Bening's performance in The Report after it debuted at Sundance, but in the end the film did not got any nominations.
