The movie Ricochet is a really stupid plot with so many implausibilities. The ONLY thing for me that made part of a rewatch tolerable the other night was John Lithgow as the villain. This was not the only movie where he had that role but IMO he is or was perfect in that role. First of all, he just looks like a bad guy. I could never see him cast as playing the POTUS in a movie. Second, he plays a psychopath perfectly. He goes to the edge of almost overdoing it but then pulls it back enough to come across as an evil genius. Less is more and he is so great at being subtle and collected while he murders his victims without hesitation and mercy. Of course he loses the fight against the good guy but at least he does not give long winded speeches giving them the chance to get the upper hand.
Agree, disagree, discuss Lithgow and his roles as a villain.

I have only seen him as a villain on Dexter and he was brilliant on that show, and in two episodes of 3rd Rock From The Sun he played an evil version of the Dick, The High Commander and he was really good.
Is he the best pick? I don`t know but he is a really good pick.

Mel Gibson recommended he'd play the villain in Lethal Weapon 5, if it ever got made, during an interview they did together for Daddy's Home 2 (2017).

Can't blame him for thinking of Lithgow as the go to bad guy. Good guy? Tons can come to mind. Bad guy? John won't disappoint. Not saying he was the only one the best at it. But he should be a household name for it.

His villain was enjoyable despite the silly accent in Cliffhanger. He was a good charismatic slimeball in Bombshell.

He could be deceptive, villainous and sleazy as part of filmmaker Brian De Palma's stock company, a reliable go-to guy.

Dexter (2006-2013) is what comes to mind when I see the name 'John Lithgow' and 'villain'.

He’s a good actor hands down. I believe him as much in the role of protective father as I do cold hearted psychopath.

For a long time, I thought John Lithgow was British until I heard his accent in Cliffhanger, which as mentioned, was not great. Anyway, he played a great psychopath in Blow Out, and he was fairly humorous as Lord Farquard in Shrek.
