Is one of these films better in your opinion? Which film is better in your opinion. Basically, for me the second film has no flaws. It's the better film imo.
Then again the French Connection has no flaws either. At least I can see none, in either film.

French Connection by far.
To Live and Die in LA has some standout moments and I think it's a decent film but it's nowhere near as consistently compelling as The French Connection.

I think both of them are fantastic gritty cop thrillers, but I like French Connection better.

I love both, so hard choice. I will say To Live and Die in L.A. is underrated as hell.

I re-watched "To Live and Die in L.A." recently, for the first time since its original theatrical release. I remembered little about it other than it was about a currency counterfeiter, and that I had liked it a lot. It held up pretty well, but I think The French Connection is a far superior movie.
One thing that made me laugh out loud: the cop has a partner who at the very beginning says that he is just days away from retirement. Naturally, he ends up dead shortly thereafter. I guess that wasn't a cliché back in the 80s!
