Did Mrs. Carver kill her husband Ken Carver?
In the movie, Ken Carver is an insurance salesman who has a wife and two children. His wife is having an affair with a local young man. On the day Gilbert (the young man) decided to break off the affair, Ken dies.
He is officially pronounced dead by drowning in the kiddie pool.
Three Possible Scenarios:
A) Mrs. Carver decided to get his large life insurance policy by drowning him in the pool. Making it look like an accident. Now the doctors claim he had a cardiac arrest and fell into the pool and drowned, but he could have had a heart attack while struggling to breathe.
B) Ken had a heart attack, he needs to go to the doctor. She's escorting him to the car and realizes she can collect his life insurance if he dies. So she doesn't help him to the car. He falls forward into the pool. She lets him drown. She doesn't kill him, but she doesn't save him either.
C) He legitimately has a heart attack while in the yard and falls forward into the pool and drowns. Unfortunate accident.
I always leaned toward A. Forensics isn't as good in 1993. They just jumped to conclusions a lot to quickly solve a crime. It's not a coincidence he died on the same day the affair, plus he was worth so much alive with all that insurance. Also, when she confronts Gilbert after the funeral in the grocery store... The way she talks about him. She says she misses him but she doesn't.
