Something tells me the theaters are going to have to come up with gimmicks to keep people coming in. Kind of like back in the 1950's with all the widescreen processes as well as 3-D to peel people away from their television sets. Maybe they'll have to reduce the amount of screens and have every screen extremely large.

If they want people to go back to the movies, then release good movies.

I won't pay $20 to rent a movie.

All this over a fucking Trolls movie?
I guess I'm going to have to tighten my belt so I don't feel hunger pains.

Kind of feels like these theater chains may be digging their own graves by sticking to this move. The tide is shifting towards home vs. theater. If you can't go to your local chain for the newest Jurassic World, Fast and Furious or Halloween, then you're going to stay home. Once you get used to that, you'll probably do the same for Disney fare, too.

I have to ask why the theaters don't use their position to launch their own streaming services that are the exclusive rental services during the theatrical window for when people can't go to theaters. Maybe it's too late but it could potentially be a wise move for the future for those who can afford it.
