It seems back then, remakes could be as good or better than the original. But starting from the 2000s, remakes seem to universally be considered inferior to the movie they are remaking and usually bad movies on their own. Even remakes like Pet Sematary or Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm Street where it would be easy to make a much better movie than the original end up being bland and inferior

I think they still can work. I loved the True Grit remake better than the John Wayne film. But back to the first question, I think with a lot of these movies it's just to make some extra money off the brand name and not put any effort. Hence all the lame horror remakes of late.

Because most of the remakes since 2000 are made just for the sake of it. The good ones (King Kong, The Hills Have Eyes, Dawn of the Dead, Insomnia etc.) are made by directors who have passion for the projects.
There have been bad remakes since before the 2000's though (King Kong 1976 has it's fans, but is commonly considered to be a very mediocre movie), it is just that remakes are far more common these days.
What are these old remakes that you are talking about anyway? The Fly is the only example I can think of that is a remake in every sense of the word. Invasion of the Body Snatchers and John Carpenter's The Thing aren't technically remakes because it is based on a novel. Are you counting True Grit, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Let Me In as remakes? If you are then there are 3 example of remakes that are commonly considered good movies and the former are often considered superior to the originals.
You say you think it would be easy to make a remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street that would be better than the original. I beg to differ. I do think it would have been easy to make a remake of Friday the 13th that would be better than the original, but the remake misses the whole point of what makes the original movies fun. The low budget and cheesy style is why those movies work as well as they do.

Because most remakes are being made for a misandrist forced diversity agenda like Ghostbusters 2016 and Charlie's Angels 2019 to cater to a few hundred toxic involuntarily celibate woman babies on Twitter.

Because the majority are just cash grabs that ad nothing interesting to an already told story.

Do you ever have anything productive to say or do you just chime in any time you can spew out your conservative commentary? I agree with you about the forced diversity remakes, but that dead horse you people have been beating is basically a red stain on the side of the road at this point.

Wow, that comeback is just as tedious and uninspired as I would expect. Way to keep me on my toes.
