If you went ahead and told the singer for the Beatles that: pet sounds is a better album than Seargent pepper's lonely hearts club band. You think he'd punch you in the face? I would say he wouldn't be wrong for doing so. Even if it was me that said that. He'd be justified for punching me or anyone in the face.
If he knew that I was saying it to be a jerk and he knew that I knew pet sounds isn't a better album. Yeah I deserve a punch in the face.
I wouldn't say it.

No, Paul McCartney certainly wouldn't punch anyone in the face for telling him they preferred Pet Sounds. For one thing, Paul seems like a really nice, affable, easy-going guy, and, for another thing, The Beatles and Beach Boys were mutual admirers of each other, and I'm sure Paul probably loves Pet Sounds too.
It's legitimately debatable whether Pet Sounds or Sgt. Pepper is better. I adore both albums, but I'd probably give an edge to Sgt. Pepper, but wouldn't think anyone was crazy for preferring Pet Sounds.

Haha I think George would punch you in the face! Truthfully, I think John would be the most likely to punch somebody in the face. That said, I think Pet Sounds is definitely a better album than Sgt. Pepper’s. In fact, I think Sgt. Pepper’s wasn’t even the best Beatles album to come out in 1967, and the only Beatles album I would safely rank above Pet Sounds is Abbey Road.

The great late 60's albums were a result of bands trying to outdo one another. Brian Wilson hear Rubber Soul and Revolver and wanted to better it. Out came Pet Sounds, The Beatles heard Pet Sounds and wanted to outdo it or at least equal it. Hence Sgt. Pepper. The days of an album being one or two hits and a bunch of filler was over.

I've never gotten the allure of Pet Sounds. I can barely see what McCartney was enamored with. Pepper all the way.
And God Only Knows makes me nauseous.

After listening to Rubber Soul, Brian Wilson said it was “the first album I listened to where every song was a gas.” He was inspired to get in the studio and top The Beatles innovative approach. The Beach Boys released Pet Sounds in 1966 and it raged throughout the world. In the UK, Pet Sounds had removed The Beatles from a 3 year run as the best selling artists of the final selling quarters. The Beach Boys were the highest grossing artists in the UK at the end of 1966. Brian Wilson’s work was admired by every part of the music industry, and one of his biggest fans was The Beatles’ Paul McCartney. The Beatles bassist named “God Only Knows,” as his favorite song of all time and referred to the track when asked about his melodic bass playing. “God Only Knows’ is one of the few songs that reduces me to tears every time I hear it. It’s really just a love song, but it’s brilliantly done. It shows the genius of Brian. I’ve actually performed it with him and I’m afraid to say that during the sound check I broke down. It was just too much to stand there singing this song that does my head in and to stand there singing it with Brian,” stated McCartney in 2007 after having the opportunity to perform the song with Brian Wilson. McCartney also credits Pet Sounds as direct inspiration for the legendary Sgt. Pepper’s Loney Hearts Club Band album.
“Without Pet Sounds, Sgt. Pepper never would have happened,” stated Beatles’ producer George Martin. “Pepper was an attempt to equal Pet Sounds.”dailyrockbox.com/paul-mccartney-names-his-favorite-song-and-its-not-a-beatles-track/
