Hope they role back the changes like they did when they made it so that swiping the screen took you to a new video. For this who haven't noticed the changes, the comments are in a different place now (minor annoyance", and swiping your finger left or right anywhere on the screen will take you forward or back in the video. This second issue is a bigger annoyance, as if you brush your finger on the screen accidentally, you then have to find your former place in the video. With a short video, maybe not much of a problem. On a long video, this can be a headache.
EDIT: The thing about swiping anywhere taking you to a different place in the video might only work on some videos? Tried it on a video I was just watching, and it didn't work, though it's behaved that way for other videos.

I really despise app changes "for the better". They are usually NOT user-friendly, annoying, take extra steps, or have a format that is annoying and nasty to look at.

It seems every year they change the layout or the features, I'm not sure why they feel obligated to do so.

On real computers, they now have a bar which allows you to select ways to limit your recommendations, apparently based on your watch history. That would be nice if the options listed made sense.

Agreed. I don't often use my phone for YouTube. I prefer the big screen on the desktop/laptop, so I click, rather than swipe.

I’ve avoided downloading the app because of the intrusive ads I’ve read about on the reviews. I just have a tab open for it on Safari.

I'm looking at a YouTube video and the comments are STILL below where they've ALWAYS BEEN. There NOT off to the SIDE as YOU say (type, actually). I checked THREE vids and ALL three have their comments BELOW the video as ALWAYS.
NOTHING HAS CHANGED!!

NOTHING HAS CHANGED!! Maybe you have an old version of the app. For me the comments are under the video info section, and below that are large square for recommended videos. If you scroll to the bottom of the recommended video to where the comments used to be, there's a message telling you that the comments have moved.
