I'm so happy to meet another Manhunter fan. Back in the day on IMDb I spent many hours on the Manhunter board engaging those who preferred Red Dragon! I totally agree with you about Noonan, it is exceptional how he portrays the insecurities of the character using just gestures. For example when he meets Reba he places his hand over his mouth to cover his scarred lips. Although his harelip is mentioned a lot in the book but not the film, Noonan effectively shows us that he is a self conscious, shy man. The scene that you mention where he perceives Reba as being intimate with her co-worker is truly heartbreaking, his emotions from the joy of seeing her to despair at her apparent betrayal are all played out on his face with the amazing soundtrack playing.
It may not surprise you to know that I adore the soundtrack too!

It may not surprise you to know that I adore the soundtrack too! I do believe there are surely a lot of other fans of this incredible movie here as well, however I guess after the old IMDb forums went down, most just ended up taking onto very different movies places or other social media sites, and it just did not quite become the same. However, I hope you enjoy your stay here, as there are lots of very nice people all over, and who has so much to offer and I think it is one of the better places to hang around, or just chat up about everything and nothing really. I did try during the last few years of IMDb, to also engage in a few "discussions" with both fans of Manhunter, but also the other "camp", the ones of preferred Red Dragon, and it just seemed like the place ended up more like a "war zone" at times, and I just decided it was no longer worth spending time there, sadly. Yes, the scene where he first covers his face or mouth, which I think later on was followed up during the whole "The Big Hush" part, and was such a stunning piece of cinema, especially when he finally lets Reba touch his face (but she is of course a sleep by then) but it means so much for him, and then the beautiful sunset during the whole morning scene, sadly, it did not last for long, but at least for a short while, poor Francis finally felt loved as a human being, and that must have felt fantastic. Yeah, I guess we are either for or against the soundtrack, cause every time I read or hear something negative about the movie, is because someone thinks it sounds "out dated" or too big or huge in sounds and so on, but I rather have all that, than the boring and almost complete "sleeping" pill that become what ended up as music in the "remake" of Red Dragon (2002). Speaking of the Manhunter soundtrack, I just love how Michael Mann had such a great way of picking out all these very different but unique artists and their way of making such a huge impact on each of the scenes, and I was so happy when the CD finally arrived almost 10 years ago, and it stands as one of my most treasured soundtracks. There are a lot of great fanmade Manhunter music videos, but the one that I think perfectly sums up both the film, style, characters, story and of course use of music, is really this one: The Prime Movers - Strong As I Am
