I gotta be honest, I tried, I really did, by using the search function, but not matter what I did, it seems like it will not cooperate with me, so I hope it is okey, to start up a new thread, if not somebody else have recently done so?
I know, well not too much about the band, so I guess starting up a thread is maybe not the wisest, however I really am becomming quite fond of their music, and while I only recently discovered them, after one of my many "impulsve" purchases, I ended up buying their Cupid & Psyche (1985), because I have noticed the band and this perticular record often shows up in discussions or reviews where other british pop-rock acts from the 80s, that I guess often where put under the tag of being "sophisti-pop" or something like that, and since I really do enjoy much of that kind of stuff, I picked the CD up, and gave it a go.
Anyhow, it somehow did not impress me all that much the first few times. I noticed it had the "classic" potential to grow on me over time, but very few of the songs really stood out, I just did not feel they stuck with me that much, as I would want to, and decided to leave it to be, for a while and maybe give it another go later on.
However, what I noticed mostly was the extreme 80s vibe, and of course the huge production values, which I guess maybe takes a little time to sink in, but I am glad that I did give it some more time, cause it have a surely been one of my more successful impulsive CD buys, and I guess the next step should be to look up some of their other stuff, but from what I have heard, they rarely made the same record over and over again, so for me that is not something I think of as bad, but it could be interesting to learn how far they went the more further away of their 80s releases.
But, enough of that, I am not sure what kind of music style Cupid & Psyche fits under, but it has surely a very r&b or dance inspired sound to it, and of course Green Gartsides "Michael Jackson" voice or well, a bit similar I think.
All in all, I really do enjoy their combination of extremely tight and richly detailed production and soulful dance-pop, along with their lush and dreamlike melodies.
Great feel-good music, and surely a band I will keep coming back to in the future.
