Both my grandma (who lives in a nursing home) and one of my uncles (who lives in a care home for people with mental health issues) were taken to the hospital to get tested for Covid-19. My uncle, who had a fever and was lethargic, tested negative and was sent back. My grandma, who (from what I understand) didn't have symptoms but was tested because a roommate had symptoms, tested positive. Not sure if she's still asymptomatic, but my dad says she's doing well and the biggest problem is trying to make her stay in her room at the home. She's very ornery by nature, and apparently is giving the staff at her home a hard time. Just as the lockdowns were kicking off in March, she actually came down with non-Covid pneumonia, and she kept leaving her room even though she was supposed to stay isolated. I'm guessing they'll be keeping a close eye on her this time around.

I echo Catman's sentiment. I, too, am keeping good thoughts.
I'm not medically trained, so I don't know if it's the general nature of any virus to span-the-gamut, in terms of patients being positive-VS-negative and/or having symptoms-VS-being asymptomatic.
Isolation isn't easy for any of us. But, it must be even more frustrating to be in a controlled "care home," environment, when your body doesn't indicate the need for extra caution.
Thoughts to your family.

I hope she gives the virus a hard time. The care homes in the UK have been hit hard so it’s something to worry about.

That's a good thing. I hope everything works out for you and all of your family.

I read in the news yesterday that a resident from a nursing home "escaped" (that's the word they used) and when she was found, she was tested for COVID and tested positive.
First, I want to know how an elderly lass gets past the front desk and out the door of a facility in lockdown, and second, how far could she have really gone, and third,....how did she "escape?"
I'm sorry to hear of your news, and I did not mean to derail your thread, but I was reminded of that story when you mentioned the roommate tested positive. Many nursing homes have 4-6 patients packed in a room, so it makes one wonder.
My prayers are with you.

autumn, these facilities have multiple entry doors aside from the main entrance for staff, deliveries, and what-not. Even assuming the doors have keypads that require a code to be entered to prevent the door from being opened without sounding an alarm, the codes are usually easy to figure out (or observe from staff using the keypads), and they do not change the codes often enough. Elderly people are not all slow-moving, and if she did not set off an alarm when escaping, she could have gotten quite a ways before anyone noticed she was missing.

Just an update: she's still doing well. She's allowed to take phone calls, so my dad's been in contact with her, and he says she sounds fine, and is her usual cantankerous self.
