Holy shit. As bad as the writing is for Batwoman, I thought she was doing a half-way decent job in the role; even if I did give up on the show when they screwed the pooch on the alternate-Beth story. It almost makes me want to see what season 2 will ultimately look like. Almost...

You know, after thinking about it, I kind of hope they don't just try and cast a new Kate. I think it would be better to try and explain Kate no longer being Batwoman, for whatever reason, and bring in some other character, new or pre-existing, to take on the mantle of Batwoman. If Kate can fill Bruce's shoes, there shouldn't be any reason for someone else to fill Kate's; and opens not options for the writers to take that character in whatever direction they want, it leaves the door open for Ruby to reprise the role in the future if she wants, even if it's just as a cameo/guest spot.

I have not seen this show, but i have to say it does seem a bit wired to leave the show like that.

Didn’t she almost get paralyzed on set? Messed up her back?

Didn’t she almost get paralyzed on set? Messed up her back? She had some sort of serious injury, that I think required surgery and did hold up production. From what I've heard, they've played coy with whether the injury happened on Batwoman or some other project - I think, if recalling correctly. I had also heard that she wasn't citing any health issues or personal problems with the production as her reason for leaving, but then she hasn't cited any reason for why she's leaving...

I had hoped she would be great in the role but in all honesty she turned out quite flat and bland. I hope they find the right person to recast the part.

Shouldn't be too suprising, or too much of a blow tbh, Rose did better than I expected her to in the role, but she was still just kind of ok, never special or anything, also didn't think she made sense for someone on a show like this as said she's used to movies that's a different animal to TV and it's also the CW so it's not like they are paying her millions to play the character.
The news already that they play to cast another LGBT actor in the role makes me chuckle, like fuck it just hire whoever is best for the role, who cares if they are a lesbian or whatever, guess what no one gives a shit Magneto old Magneto was played by a openly gay man, the character is the character the actor is the actor, their job is to act like the character not be like them, if a LGBT actor is the best for the role then great, if not so be it hire the hetero actress and have the best Batwoman you can have because like really does anyone care if Megan Tandy or Christina Wolfe are lesbians or bisexual in real life? no they are actors playing a part so why bother forcing yourself to narrow the selection process? it's a publicity gimmick with the character of Batwoman and with the case of Ruby Rose it's one that didn't amount to much and is now causing them more issues.
All that being said if they can cast a great LGBT actress in the role then that's fantastic, lets just hope that's the case I guess.

Yeah i agree with that, i mean the sexual orientation of an actor should not matter of who plays the role. I mean if we are going to have it such that only lesbian can play a lesbian character or gay actor can play a gay character, i mean if we use that logic a lesbian actress or gay actor can never play a heterosexual character which is obviously silly. The best actor or actress should always be given the role regardless what the sexual orientation of the actor. If the best actress for Batwoman is straight she should get the role, if the best actress for the role is a lesbian she should get it.

It's not a question of "why can't a straight person play a gay person; if a gay person can play straight?" because straight characters are a dime a dozen. The default assumption about virtually any character is that they're straight until the audience is told otherwise. A straight actor portraying a character in a heterosexual relationship means nothing; that it's a so-called straight relationship is taken for granted; whereas playing a gay character is, even now, still a relatively less common opportunity for any actor, and the decision to make a character anything other than straight almost always has to be justified and subjected to scrutiny and it's arguably equitable - not equal - equitable to defer those opportunities first to actors who inherently reflect the less common traits of those characters.

Sounds like a whole load of horse shit to me pal.
My issue is they shouldn't just hire based on sexuality but hire based on talent, because guess what Ruby Rose being a lesbian IRL didn't help this show be better, didn't make the show any bigger, it didn't do shit except justify why they hired such a meh actress to play such a vital role, like I said if they get a talented LGBT actress then that's tremendous, I just don't see why they have to only hire a LGBT actress when none of the other gay characters not even the gay superhero's they have cast before needed to be cast with and then touted as being played by openly gay actors, nor do any of the other LGBT characters in Batwoman needed to be played by LGBT actress's like Batwoman needed to be, it's a publicity stunt is all imo.
Dreamer I think is the only other like this, and that's a notably different situation which makes far more sense to have a trans actress playing a trans character imo atleast.

Berlanti doesn't hire on talent. He is stone cold terrified of angry e-mails from worthless SJW's and does nothing but try to appease them. It's why his shows all suck now.
