If this is all true, I hope he's doing it for the right reasons. I mean I hope it's a passion project and not some move just to help boost his career. I mean when was the last time he did well at the box office? But if this is something that's an inspired idea for him and he's passionate about, then there should be no reason to stop him.

Just releasing the novel would be better.

Yeah, I don't know about this.

Well, at least there's more 90's nostalgia stuff on the way then.

Well, at least there's more 90's nostalgia stuff on the way then. Remake the bad or laughably mediocre stuff then! I’d like a proper adaptation of Congo.

This will not happen imo. Or at least I hope it doesn't happen. Sounds like a pipe dream for Mann.

I think the question that's on everyone's mind is, will the amazing thespian Tone Loc be in it?

Now this is interesting considering that McCauley and Hanna met for the first time in Heat. Does this mean that they will have parallel storylines in the prequel or is it only going to focus on one of them? Personally I would find a story about De Niro's character more interesting, but that's just my opinion.

Not a good move. I was actually a fan of the Miami Vice film, but I know I was in the minority. I don’t know if a prequel to Heat would do much better box office wise. I could be wrong.

I personally think that in order for a prequel to work the movie should have a lot of undiscovered elements that weren't in the original film like the Star Wars prequels or it should be a comedy where the humor can overshadow the fact that you have some idea of the ending already and that the movie is so predetermined dramatically.

Michael Mann guested on The Ringer's Rewatchables podcast this week.
There is a novelization out next summer, 2022, a prequel & sequel of sorts spanning 1988 to 1998 of the Heat characters. Mann goes into vivid detail about Neil & Hanna's backgrounds that he wrote out for himself & the actors for characterization. He said that Hanna in his past would speed down a road at night, flip his headlights off, & see how long he would speed before turning his lights back on. That was about his character chasing things, the dangers.
As for the pod, there was a revelation that Kate Winslet was considered for Natalie Portman's role.
