Drove across Australia from Perth to Sydney along the southern part of the country. That sounds amazing. Australia scares me a little bit though, all the tales of venomous spiders, snakes and stuff. But I do want to go... Spiders, snakes and stuff oh my

Spiders, snakes and stuff oh my is that not accurate description of Australia? :-) I would love for it to not be true. But just yesterday I read about most dangerous beaches and yes several were in Australia, with danger both in water (box jelly fish?) as well as on land (big angry birds and venomous spiders )

Probably the carribean cruise. With all the great food and entertainment and excursions. I have never been on a cruise, tell me, does it feel like a floating hotel or more like being on water with accommodation, if you know what I mean? Also, do people spend most of their time on the dec or elsewhere?

Also, do people spend most of their time on the dec or elsewhere? Sort of like a big floating resort I guess I would say. There were like 3 days I did excursions like snorkeling, and went over to another beach on an island and checked out the town over there and a couple of other things. But on a regular day a lot of people like to spend the day sitting by the pool and all that. But there are other things to do during the day. Then after dinner comes all the entertaintment, the night time activities, etc... I was more of a night owl at the time so I preferred the night activities and entertainment and then you had the midnight buffet.

So much history behind it. And associated movies. You can almost see Spartacus, Maximus and Princess Anne or Sylvia running around there... It may be even more beautiful now without all the annoying tourist crowds

I love everywhere I've ever been. But, in the states, San Diego and New Orleans were so much fun.
Outside the states, Rio de Janeiro and Rome were like being on another planet, in the best way possible. In both cities, people were so warm and open. My kind of people.

For sure more than LA and about as much as SF. Havent been to Rio yet but it is on my list.

The best vacation was the simplest. It was my childhood summers with my extended family and friends at a lake. We just rented a cabin, and we'd water ski, swim all day, row boat or take one of the motor boats, play in the sand... At the end of two weeks, we'd always finish off having a giant lobster lunch with huge lobsters, corn on the cob, fresh fruit salad, lots of watermelon (that was one of the best parts).
There was this little old fashioned store just a short walk from the lake, and we'd walk there and get penny candy and fudgesicles or creamsicles. Ahh, youth!
I've traveled to some beautiful places outside of this country and yet I still take this cozy family gathering at the lake in a cabin.

Cozy and warm pretty much beat out everything else.

I used to feel the same way, but one gets used to it. One need be aware, but North America is full of creepy crawlies too and USA and Canada have lots of big animals to be wary of like cougars and bears and wolves if in the wilderness. I guess it's the same deal with sharks. I'd like to go surfing. But I'm afraid of sharks. But people keep surfing. So, I guess it's not really that bad. (Australia is supposed to have the worst shark problem.)

I'm a history nerd too and would love to go to Italy, but it's behind Greece on my list. I'm fascinated by Ancient Greece and would love to see Mycenae, Athens, Sparta, etc.

I'm a travel nerd, but I think my favorite trip is still my very first solo backpacking trip, in Nepal and India. I was just pinching myself to see if this was real. Everything was new and exotic and utterly fascinating. Just walking down the street overwhelmed the senses.
Unfortunately, the more you travel, the less culture shock you experience, and I kind of miss that. On one of my more recent trips, I went to the tribal regions in Ethiopia and stayed with the tribes, sleeping on goat skins in a mud dung hut. When I wasn't culture shocked by that, then I knew it was over. I had pretty much seen everything before, and it was definitely a little bittersweet. Since then, I've been trying to switch from the shock and awe phase, back to enjoying the simple things in life again. But that's a good thing, too.

I guess the most touristy of places in Southern Bavaria what was so interesting there? Beer? Women? Nature? Or was it the companionship on that trip that made it the best?

Some Indian history but mostly European impact. What absolutely floored me was how old the history of Rome is. Thousands of years not hundreds. Good luck reaching your goal!

I will certainly need good luck if I am to ever fulfill my wish list of places I want to see. I grew up in England so I've been lucky in that I've seen plenty of really old castles and houses.

The last one I took at the beginning of March with my mom and sister to SoCal to visit family
We stayed at a hotel that was in the same lot as a shopping mall ~ fun! It's a great time of year to go there, I love it there

I worked for the US Dept of defense and lived in Germany teaching school for 2 years Morgana. I couldn't get enough of the castles ! And Cologne 's cathedral. Just incredible. Keep your eyes on the prize. You can do it!
