Unfortunately Alexander the Great's sword has been lost, but hey, look on the bright side. We've still got Hobart's Pike. Ever since I was a kid I always thought the 79th Armoured was one of the most interesting specialized ground units of the war; right up there with Wingate's Circus, Merrill's Marauders, and Popski's Private Army. They never fought as a single division, but were instead sent piecemeal wherever a breakthrough was needed. Percy Hobart. Nickname "Hobo." Brother-in-law to Montgomery. Because of their odd appearance the tanks of the 79th Armoured were nicknamed "Hobo's Funnies." Just by looking at the guy's photo you can tell how "difficult" he must have been to work with. And yet he was brilliant. And as the man says in the video, in 1940 when all seemed lost he was ready to take on the Germans with a bayonet on the end of a stick.
