77 worthwhile feature films or TV series I have watched on YouTube over the past two years, with release date (as per IMDb) and director. (Now more than 77 because I will add titles to this post as I come across them)Picture, sound and subtitle quality may vary. I have not checked whether they are all still available, but I expect most of them still are. There are many other good movies available, but if they are already in my DVD collection I will not have listed them. I have not listed the hundreds I have watched but rated at 6 or lower. The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man in the Moon Marigolds (1972) Thanks for the tip-off, bravomailer. I have never seen this movie, despite once having been given two free tickets for designing a poster for it. It looks sufficiently morose for me.

No guarantee of print quality nor (in one case) sync between dialog and lip movements. Have seen many of the ‘40s films listed by London and can endorse (but will not repeat) them all.
Shriek In The Night (1933) Ginger Rogers So Dark The Night (1946) Forgotten gem Inside Job (1946) Downer crime film. Perfect to cheer you up. Ivy (1947) Joan Fontaine as murderous femme Undertow (1949) Location footage from Reno, Nevada and Buckingham Fountain in Chicago One Way Street (1950) James Mason and Dan Duryea Please Murder Me! (1956) Angela Lansbury as femme fatale and Raymond Burr playing the sap

There are a lot of very worthwhile movies there and many of them are foreign movies too : I would strongly recommend these movie by Basil Dearden for those who may not have seen them: The League of Gentlemen is great heist movie and Sapphire (1959) is a good British drama with racial overtones.

On Jun 1 2019 in mstreepsucks' thread on racism in movies I wrote this:Sapphire (1959) dir: Basil Dearden. A pioneering and better movie [than the later "Flame in the Streets", though that is also worth watching]. Racism comes to the fore during a murder investigation. Nigel Patrick is the humane detective. Michael Craig is his sidekick and a defect in the film as the stereotyped unthinking racist, but the stand-out work is by Yvonne Mitchell. Her final scene made me quite uneasy. It is available on YouTube. Catch it while you can! (And Kijii and I are still plugging it!)

I endorse your recommendations. An even better ground-breaking Dearden movie on YouTube is Victim (1961).

Thank you so much for posting this! YouTube is such a great source. Ok.ru is another site with a huge number of old and hard to find titles, although unfortunately one has to sift through those which have been dubbed into Russian.

Undertow (1949) Location footage from Reno, Nevada and Buckingham Fountain in Chicago. Watched this last night. Not much mystery as it is pretty obvious who the villains were from the start. Theme is Noir but style not. Spot Rock Hudson in his first credited screen appearance (though credited as "Roc" Hudson). Someone was doing him a favor as his role is totally redundant. I liked Ann McKnight (see pic) as the female lead but her bio does not appear in IMDb. Only screen appearance? Why Undertow? No aquatic connection whatsoever. 5.0

Caught it a few weeks back and, for fans of the more serious long-form UK crime dramas (like Morse, Frost, Vera, Maigret, Gently and so forth), as hubby and I are, Sapphire will feel instantly accessible and comfortable: the opening scene in which passersby (what hubby calls "the finders") come across the body; the establishment of the crime scene; the medical examiner on-site as the lead investigators arrive and get filled in; the unfolding investigation itself, through systematic interviews with family, friends and associates, uncovering of hidden clues and peeling away the layers of concealment, secrets and deceptions as, all the while, the personalities of the investigators are revealed and come into play. Although not without mordant humor along the way, it's sober, intelligent, provocative and absorbing. Of course, that's not telling you and kijii anything you didn't already know, but did either of you happen to notice Desmond Llewelyn, soon to become world famous as Q, as a constable at the crime scene?

i need some short movies to watch on YouTube as well. I suggest you type "short movies" into the search box and you will get a drop-down menu of categories to narrow it down a bit. I cannot recommend any. I never watch them (nor read short stories either). It would be like offering me a tablespoonful of Guinness.
