I am a cheap sod and live off a couple of pensions that barely total $18,000. Most everything has been paid off so this has never been a problem and I rarely have to dip into my savings.
But since the lockdown started my savings have actually increased. I can't eat out or even go into a coffee shop. The museums, pubs and cinemas are all shut. I don't even have to put anything on the collection plate because the churches have closed.
So its looks as though this flu has its plus side.

I haven't had a manicure, pedicure, hair cut or spa in 3 months. We haven't eaten at a restaurant. I do cook more but that is cheaper. No church donation either. No gym I put gas in my van for the first time yesterday. Used to be every 7 to 10 days. I haven't been to the dentist, not even for a cleaning. no doctor's appointments which at least have a co-pay. yes, sadsaak I think you have a point. COV19 has been economically helpful to us, a retired couple.

That is one point. I'm saving a lot on gas. Gas prices have gone up about 20 cents per gallon though, so I suppose that makes up for it. I like to keep my tank full, and I was putting gas in about once a week. I can count the number of times I've put gas in the tank. Maybe twice.

My daughter in Florida said gas is down almost a dollar a gallon.

This is really interesting for us as well as my husband took 2 months off without pay, and I've been working from home.
- Gas is cheaper and we're not driving, so we're saving that. - Cooking a lot more since we can't eat out. We'll get takeout once in a while. - Husband hasn't paid for last four haircuts (I cut his hair); I haven't had my nails done or my hair cut (I do use professional hair product, though, so color is still good). - Don't go to movies or other entertainment venues. - We've been provided with the Pandemic money from the Feds ($1,200 each). - Husband qualified for unemployment, plus the $600/week.
We've actually made out BETTER financially.

Then it went up to around $1.69. I went out today and now it's $1.99. So they're jacking the prices up very rapidly, and I have no doubt it'll be around your price soon. Remember when gas was almost $5.00 a gallon?

It was higher in other areas. California's gas is always high Did you try freezing bread?

They were completely out. I thought the whole "panic buying" was a thing of the past and we were getting back to normal, but I think that's my faulty thinking from being isolated and only going out very rarely and shopping in bulk to minimize my time in stores. I used to shop sometimes twice a week if I felt like making a certain dish sometimes. Now I try to shop for a few weeks at a time. They've been out of bread a lot. I was lucky to get eggs the last time. They were out of eggs this time too. It's so strange...all these empty shelves.

That's crazy they were out of bread!

yeah same here. saving on cinema and eating out mostly.
also learned to simply spend less, and hoping i will keep it that way even after the pandemic is over. although i do miss going to the movies and will probably keep my hobby of going to see all that comes out, but i can easily save on clothes and food i think after this experience.
there absolutely Are Some good things about this all.
