Kristen Bell Slammed for New Children's Book That Encourages Colorblind Racism
Kristen Bell has been slammed for writing a children’s book that promotes being colorblind instead of recognizing actual people of different races and ethnicities. The book, The World Needs More Purple People, focuses on a “purple person” who “looks for similarities before differences.” In a video posted by the Associated Press, the actress and author said, “The world loves debate, I do, and debate talks about differences. It’s layering difference upon difference upon difference, ‘I think this’, ‘no, you should think this’, it’s just constantly pointing out divisive narratives.” She continued, “Our kids are absorbing all of that and maybe we needed a bit of a road map to show them that it’s actually great to start with similarities first.” www.complex.com/pop-culture/2020/06/kristen-bell-slammed-childrens-book-encourages-colorblind-racism

Clearly the proper response is to boycott Frozen and Frozen II.

well, I am keeping up on the current description of white supremacy and thus know that colorblindness is one of the traits of a white supremacist. she probably didnt get the memo?
anywho... as i am reading the angry twitter comments and see the repetitive “she probably doesnt even know any non whites/just like most white people who never interact with non whites”
I wonder... like how old does one have to be and where in the US they have to live for that to even commonly be true??
I dont know ANYONE who wouldnt actually have non white friends. like not a single person that i can think of.
Like I am actively going through my contact list of friends and Everybody has some non white friends that I know of.
Is it the age thing or living in a big city thing?
Do you know anybody who doesnt have Any non white friends? How old are they/ where do they live?
(if u live in an all/90% white country it doesnt count)
Also, isnt the book aiming at not focusing on political differences (so its not about race)? (dont know)

I couldn't live life without knowing any black people if I wanted to. (I'm white.)

I agree. And I don't get the ridicule when one says, "Some of my best friends are black." What would they prefer? A white person who has no black friends? How about a white person who refuses to have any black friends?

How about a white person who refuses to have any black friends? I was thinking about that too. Like whats the “proof”. There is no proof. I have black and asian and latin american (and non american) friends, (and arabic/muslim, if that matters), several of them are in my close friends circle, I dated african american men as well as asian man, i employed (as in directly selected, hired and paid) both as well, I worked for an african american man who also happened to be my favorite boss and mentor, my landlord is black, I enjoy and purchase artwork of number of non white artists, I shop at minority owned stores, and all that happens naturally without me trying to force anything or even thinking about who is what race... which i no longer know if its “right”. . the only area where i do this intentionally is in my art - I intentionally make sure I have a diverse cast on each project, with roles of educated/ powerful/ likeable/ smart characters going to people across all races. but the rest happens organically just through normal life. its not deserving of praise or anything its just pointing out that it would actually be pretty challenging for me to somehow exist in a white vacuum.

Most of my friends are black. Not because I insist on having black friends. Only because most of the people around here are black. And I don't have a college degree. And I've always done physical labor jobs with low pay. And unfortunately those jobs are more often populated by black people. I know white people. I just have more in common with my black friends. Isn't that the way it's supposed to work? I don't judge people by the color of their skin. I just associate the most with those with whom I have more in common with. And with whom there is a mutual attraction.

Uh, people with normal vision see color. You cannot teach people to be color blind. In fact, duh, earth to world, color blindness is a defect.
Nah, the would is beautiful. I don't want to live in a world without color. I'm not color blind. I see color. It's just not important to me.

TV and movie personalities should stick to their regular jobs, instead of using their celebrity to get recognized as "authors." They think that since they're writing for children, they can get away with heavy-handed, clunky prose just so that they can claim to be real authors. I don't see any kids clamoring to read these celebrities' books, because almost none of them have much appeal.

Everything is not racist.

I'm talking about socializing with people. Not painting, or decorating. The article in the OP makes an analogy. But please don't try and tell me you don't notice a person's physical features. I never said that. I notice everything. But I don't discriminate based on race or skin color.

So you think Martin Luther King was a white supremacist? i am not saying that it is MY description or opinion, I am saying thats on the educational list of white supremacy traits that is currently circulating online and asked to be taken seriously... google “white supremacy pyramid”. from what i read up on it recently, claiming not to see color is considered bad and a form of white supremacy. times change. what was good before may bad now and vice versa in some cases. I am GUESSING that in MLK case he couldnt be a white supremacist because he is not white and couldnt be a racist because according to the new definition of racism you cannot be racist if you are white (racism is prejudice and power) its genuinely challenging to keep one educated on it. right now I am getting my education from Dave Chappelle and his new routine (8:46). I like Dave Chappelle a lot. I would hapily get all my education from him.
