I've been watching the TV series Person of Interested, and Finch's fiancée offers him an ice-cream cone, and tells him it's "salted caramel" and suddenly I'm thinking to myself,...you know, that sounds pretty good. Do they make such a thing?

Gotta be better than dill pickle ice cream.
Yes, someone actually made that. Catman tried it because they offered a free sample.
It was terrible.

I have tried several brands of salted caramel ice "cream"--all of them "plant-based" or vegan, since I have a dairy allergy. Here is one brand that is available at some Target stores: ![](https://target.scene7.com/is/image/Target/GUEST_412f6cdc-531f-4df4-88ab-2342b17c5bf5?wid=325&hei=325&qlt=80&fmt=webp) Here's a Ben & Jerry's variety (also available from "selected" Targets) that is close to salted caramel, though not identical: ![](https://target.scene7.com/is/image/Target/GUEST_9e2330f1-b87c-4535-a854-40886afa7ff3?wid=325&hei=325&qlt=80&fmt=webp) Of the two, I prefer the B & J, but be advised that it is quite sweet. I usually follow a serving of this treat with three or four mini-pretzels to counteract that sweetness.

I have a normally not weird friend who likes vanilla ice cream with potato chips (regular plain) and a dill pickle ... (not slices) to be eaten with (not mixed in ! ). Have not ventured to actually try it my own self.

Have not ventured to actually try it my own self. One of my exes used to crush up potato chips in his vanilla ice-cream so I'm guessing that was sort of a precursor to the salty-sweet thing. I'm thinking of stopping at the store tomorrow to scope out their options of salted caramel. I'm worried about the "too sweet' aspect though. I wonder what the difference in taste would be between non-dairy and dairy would be. -- I found the Ben & Jerry's brand. And Magnum has a Double Sea Salt & Caramel. Then I see some made with oat milk. Quite a few are made with chocolate as well.

The short burst of saltiness within the sweetness of caramel as the vanilla ice cream sooths the palate is amazing.

Then it occurred to me: Why not just buy regular ol' caramel ice-cream and sprinkle salt on that? Wouldn't that amount to pretty much the same thing? lol

Over the years, I've had vanilla ice creams that are "marbled" with caramel ... much like "marbled fudge." I can't recall precisely what brands, but it's fairly common. It's also delicious.
Caramel with sea-salt has become popular, lately. Ghirardelli, and other chocolate confectioners, have put out chocolate bars/squares/truffles, that are filled with it.
I love ice-cream, but don't eat it often. I'll look for this combination, the next time I shop for ice cream.

Not just salt, it has to be sea salt.
