Did you go to prom? Did you ask someone or did they ask you? What was it like?

Yes. She asked me. I don't remember anything about it because I was drunk. The only thing I remember was a horrible hangover. It was actually amusing, because in the prom pictures my face was extremely pale and one could easily guess from my expression that I was totally wasted.

Yup and there was none of the stupid 'have to go with a date' expectation at my school. You graduated you went. Whether alone, as a group of friends (me) or paired off. Graduation/prom was a proper dinner with dancing after. No idea if it was different at other schools or if it's changed at my school now.

Yes, it was a lot of fun. I didn't have a date going in so I just danced with female friends whom were also dateless;not sure why, they were good looking. On spur of the moment, I asked the third one out and she said yes.

We call 'em formals, and no, I never went to one as I wasn’t in the slightest bit interested.

While not filled with regret for having not gone, I suppose that it may have been fun to attend... with or without a date. At the time, I was far too consumed with self-imposed suffering, mooning over one girl, to consider other possible courses of action.

I was not exactly popular, but my Senior year I went to two proms. My own high school I went with this sweet girl who had a crush on me. And the second one was the daughter of a coworker of my mom's. I didn't know this girl from Adam and I would rather have gone out with somebody named Adam. It was okay. We double dated with this other couple at the girl's school. I do remember I was very much attracted to the guy. Lol.

I did. Went stag - figuring there may be some other classmates who did the same.
There wasn't. I was pretty much the only one who did go solo.
But, I went - just to say that I did.

i did, had a bf then so we were a couple but the only 3 pictures i have from prom include my best friend instead of him. and u know what, it was a good choice. she is still my best friend while he was only my bf for like 4 months then also. wearing black velvet dress was not a great choice for prom Nice to retain those friendships. Never kept in touch with my school chums. We all went our own ways a few yrs after high school. That doesn’t bother me though. I have kept some long standing previous work relationships though. I bet you had plenty of bf’s Nora. I would’ve been jealous. Was your black velvet dress slinky? We just had what we call the senior ball or school formal. Prom is Nth American term. I went to one, but didn’t want to go. They are just another biased endorsement of hetero privilege especially last century. Went with a group of buddies. I had had my fair shaire of bfs, but I was just so lucky to have met my best friend in the first grade. And even luckier that she was someone who grew up to be amazing AND with common interests and similar professional ambition, so we had reasons to stay friends other than just having met in school and liking each other as little girls. She became a doctor (how convenient to have a dr for a best friend if one is a ALLEGEDLY a hypochondriac so we went through similar challenges about having to study really hard to get into good schools and graduate from schools that required a lot of memorization and were very high stress, same as our jobs after school. We also coincidently faced a tragic death of an immediate family member only 3 months apart when we were 16 and I think that gave the bond yet another layer, as nobody else in our immediate circle of friends went through anything similar at that time. We have stayed best friends for 35 years now, god that is a long time. And our friendship survived even competing for the same guy as teenagers. As well as many broken hearts and happy new beginnings AND family vacations with my parents who are tough to be around . I feel incredibly lucky to have met her and confident in saying that this is a friendship that will stay till "death do us part". We now live continents apart, but nothing changes. As for the dress, it was a simple cold shoulder black velvet a-line dress but looking back I wonder why I had it made (yes, I designed this thing and had it made for that occasion) so big, just unflattering. It absolutely should have been slinky.
