Like when a chunk of the strawberry gets mushy and tastes a bit off.

If it's got just a bit of mould (mold) I bin the whole thing. You sometimes cannot see mould around the bit that is visible.

Cut out and eat ... or cut and then smoothie 'em !
IF the soft part tastes "off", freezing / smoothie-ing the bad part with the good will affect the flavor of all.
REALLY mushy or mold .. toss / compost !
at the U-Pick-em places eat the good parts of the soft ones and try not to get too much juice on your shirt.

nutsberryfarm 🏜store bought ones are so hard that they often go from good to moldy with little or no intermediary soft spots.

If the "soft spots" easily show mold I toss 'em in the trash. Otherwise I use them in smoothies.

Toss them if they taste off or are moldy. If just a little too ripe, just eat them.
