Aww, I don't agree. I'd consider "animal lover" across the board to be a plus.

Weird, but there might actually be a difference between genders here. I remember there was a study which claimed that men who smiled in photographs were considered less desirable by women than those looking serious. Whereas with men it's the opposite since they prefer women who smile.
It may be an evolutionary thing. The original role of the man was to protect his woman. A man with a dog may come over as more self-assured or capable of violence, while a man with a cat may seem like a softie. As a dog owner you have to be a dominant force to train your dog, cats on the other hand are more independent and don't like to be dominated.

How would this compare to a man who poses with his favorite teddy bears?

This strikes Catman as an excellent way to thin out the undesirables.

This is the sort of thing that rarely applied when I was a young man although there were dating services. I wonder if any men used to take their cats to nightclubs, public houses or parties and strike a pose?

Because it makes them not a bad boy type. Because women(some) like bad boys. But i can't fault them for that, i do the exact same thing. I only look for 'hot women.'

Any man who poses with a cat when asking for a date is a first class fool. Women want a caveman, not a pussy.
Fine, you have a cat, the ladies love cats. But they don't want to see a man clutching one as if it's a security blanket. Heterosexuals are clueless sometimes. Time and place, fools.
Not all women want a caveman either. There’s this thing called Civilisation that struck them a few years ago.

Not all women want a caveman either. There’s this thing called Civilisation that struck them a few years ago. It's all advertising. Not every man wants a beautiful blonde with big boobs but they still sell in ads. Only an idiot would pose with a cat when looking for a date with a woman. He might as well sing show tunes. Unless he’s looking for that special group of women who love men who hug cats.

This would explain why women prefer James Bond to Blofeld.

Sure, women are attracted to these "bad boy" types, and then they hook up. Then what happens. Men complain forever that their women are always trying to change them, and women are always gossiping and complaining about what their men are doing. Until women learn to have an initial attraction to the men they want to "bring home to mother" (as oppose to the ones they want to have sex with for the night), this will keep happening. Men marry women hoping they'll never change (because we put on fronts for men to snare them) Women marry men hoping they can change them (because we're attracted to bad boys and want to tame them for relationships). It's a stupid formula and we wonder why things are so screwed up.

If I were looking at photos of men I'd probably gravitate to a guy with a cat since I love cats. Probably would make me think maybe we'd have a good chance of being compatible and I wouldn't have to wonder if he'd take to my cat.

Unless he’s looking for that special group of women who love men who hug cats. Oh sure there will always be those with different tastes. But in advertising in general you appeal to the broadest range. Most women aren't looking for a pussified man when they seek a mate. What is he, a f**king cat breeder? If that's the case, okay. But this isn't about advertising, it's about finding the perfect mate. If he portrayed himself as something he isn't it will most probably result in a bad date. He might not be what you're looking for but you probably aren't what he's looking for either.

I saw this on Inside Edition. It made me pretty sad because I love cats, and I always thought guys with cats on their profile pictures are cute.
Oh well...it's their loss.
